1st Annual Bahia Asuncion Surfing Tournament

DianaT - 8-12-2007 at 03:34 PM

Well, the secret is out. When we moved here, a local told us about a secret surfing beach off the road to Punta Prieta. He asked us not to share it----but now they just held a Tournament there.

We did not see any gringos, but there were quite a few people from other parts of Baja---so much for the "secret" place, if it really was secret.

Sign put on the main road for the event- Notice it is put over an old San Roque sign which is from a different direction.

Most of the locals went out there via the beach road from town.

The welcoming sign--crowd grew as the day went on

A couple of surfing pictures

Not being a real surfing fan, I had more fun watching the crowd. Oh, it was easy to tell who was from out of town---the locals all offered their sun shade and their chairs, not so the out of towners.

He was also watching the crowd as were a few from the state

A future surfer

Just know these girls are whispering secrets about boys--

Ah, whereever there are little boys and something to throw---well, they just cannot resist.

We left before the real party began and returned to our cool side of the hill.

OK, just a quick report as I cure my hangover...actually I've been busy with the flying doctors the last few days as they wer short handed and so I had to play nurse. So yup, the secret is out I guess as the surf competition was a HUGE success!!! Just a nice swell, awesome weather and tons of people mainly from Baja and one other nomad lurker who will be happy not to have been discovered...he was incognito hangin with Sirena! The surf party was a 2 day event and last night were the awards and reggae dance...the first 3 prizes were taken by guys from Tortugas, Ensenada and a local kid who was pretty proud. Next up is a car race and demolition derby, then the real Fiestas start Wednesday with a cabalgata with over 100 horses in it and the fishing derby. Gonna be a busy week here and lots of fun so if I'm not on the board you will know we are partying. So I hope the trotters keep ya posted with pics of it all...hasta luego amigos!

Geez...I don't know if all this "knowing Nomads face to face" is such a good idea...you guys are getting to know me tooooo well.....busted!!:o Next time I'm gonna get the flying docs to bring me down one of those little nurses caps and a mini uniform!!! The clinic was a big success...40 patients in a day and a half with around 100 procedures performed...lots of happy smiles. They don't usually do cosmetic work but one little girl had very stained front teeth from the water supply from living in Ensenada and her mom explained to us that she didn't want to go to school because the kids called her "chite eater"...poor girl...so the dentist spents a couple hours not only removing the stains, but he got em so white plus reconstructed them to be very beautiful....and man that little girl was about the happiest niņa I have ever seen and our work was repaid with her huge smile!

Great work, as usual Shari !!
Those flying docs are such a great service for small towns like Asuncion.
Not a bad place to direct some donations, I bet.
