Typical Weekend for Rosarito Cops/Ratons

sancho - 8-13-2007 at 10:24 AM

Some things are consistant, 20 yr old
surfer friend, as if that is not a red flag,
gets pulled over for traffic violation Sat.,
put in jail, very effective technique,
escorted to ATM, withdraws $80 us
dollars worth, mordida paid, on his
way, neghbor has Chev Van taken
from La Fonda while having lunch,
they must hate the slow mid
week days

surfer jim - 8-13-2007 at 10:48 AM

Well...at least the surfer wasn't going to all those "secret" spots.....

WOW! Eighty dollars?

It really must have been a slow day. That's like $800 to regular tourist. Rosarito cops don't usually hassle surfers.

No profit in it.

Cypress - 8-13-2007 at 12:44 PM

This isn't something to joke about. :D Could happen to any of us making our way down thru Baja.:) Or anywhere else for that matter.

gnukid - 8-13-2007 at 01:05 PM

But could you give any more to the story... charges against the surfer? was the la fonda car stolen.

You're right, sorry

That's like $800 $750 to regular tourist.

DENNIS - 8-13-2007 at 01:51 PM

Wouldn't it be great if American tourists would boycot Rosarito Beach? The reasons could be that we are persecuted, robbed, violated, disrespected, coerced, intimidated, abused, jailed, ignored, did I say robbed?, beaten, killed and robbed. This is done by the police who are supposed to protect. Crimes and atrocities are commited by citizens as well but the police activity stands out as most reprehensible.
Yeah.....wouldn't it be great.
Well, it won't happen. It won't because we are a miserable example of solidarity. We don't care what happens to others as long as it doesn't happen to us.
Baja Nomad should make it a rule that you can't complain about abuses here. Nobody cares. It happened to you? You must have done something wrong. Nobody cares.
What a pathetic shame.

oldhippie - 8-13-2007 at 02:14 PM

It has the closest El Nido restaurant. I really like it. Boycotting something you like because of principle is asking too much. :o

DENNIS - 8-13-2007 at 02:19 PM

of course.

How in hell would you know that this surfer did not commit the crime...they took him to jail...corrupt cops...I don't think so...$80 to get out jail... so they used ATM...that means he did not he the money to pay mordida...if he was guilty they would of had to take him to the station...I guess for drama/sympathy you could call it jail...doesn't sound like mordida to me.
Let us see...guessing...young person speeding...running stop sign...and 50-100 other things that they blatantly do all the time...what do you think the odds are he did the crime?:lol::lol:
No Cypress it could not happen to any of us...they may pull me over, it won't be for committing a crime...I will not pay and they won't take me to JAIL...that does not mean I can not make an error...but I have had only 2 tickets in more then 40 years...both of which I contested and plead guilty, and was let off with a warning by the judge. Respect the law and you can tell them to shove Mordida up their........

Bajalover - 8-13-2007 at 04:00 PM

Wow, I thought I read a thread where the highway between Tj and Ensenada (guess that includes small towns - for fish tacos also) was fine free for tourists. Meaning no corrupt cops?? Hey maybe I'm way off base here. Never been stopped and by saying that, next trip - wammo, I can see it coming. They'll confiscate my Coors Can (airstream trailer) and I'll be homeless.:tumble::tumble::?::?:

Cypress - 8-13-2007 at 04:15 PM

Al G. With all due respect. Speaking from experience, don't think I'd advise telling the law to shove anything anywhere.:o

woody with a view - 8-13-2007 at 04:43 PM

i promise never to venture any farther into rosy rita than the pemex south of town.....

FYI...Gas is cheaper in Ensenada. Pemex dealers can charge more in TJ and Rosarito.

Ditto, as far as Rosarito Beach is concerned. I will, however, continue to patronize La Fonda, where I will park as close to the restaurant as possible and pay the security guard to watch my vehicle while I eat.

Most of you know what I think about stopping north of Santo Tomas....for the readers who do not have experience on how to protect your belongings and your life, if that is possible...Just don't stop:( it is very sad...as I do not have the experience and would like to visit Gene and drank a couple cases of Pacifico with Dennis... Maybe chase some of his girlfriends....

Is this rhetorical or meant to be funny...I am sure most understood I did not mean it literally:lol::lol::lol:

Methinks maybe story is stretched a tad.
What about the desk sargeant? The Judicario? (sp) Booking procedures?
I have paid enough tickets at the desk in enough copshops in Mexico to know that they DO have procedures. One officer is not going to get you into a cell & out again without paperwork.

Besides, dealing with a TJ cop, or a Bangkok one for that matter, is like burglarproofing your house - be stubborn and act dumb enough to make it harder to hassle with you than to walk away & hassle someone else. Has always worked for me since 1970.

Agree with you there...but Cabo blows that place off the face of the earth. I just returned and there is absolutely no reason for anyone looking for any type of Baja experience to go to Cabo...Muy Malo:lol:

If your description of Cabo were true, Cabo would have died long ago. Cabo serves people the same way La Paz, or TJ, serves. It might not work for you, but it sure works for a whole lot of people.

Baja Bernie - 8-17-2007 at 08:18 PM

You knocked that one over to Sonora.

Al G - 8-17-2007 at 09:12 PM

great place for kids to lose their inhibitions...great place for your first and last goggle...and swear NEVER again.
I guess, as good as, any place to waste a fortune on some place you will never want to go again...to spend the rest of your life trying to trade for some place special...read my lips...condo sales. There is something good in everything and I am sure you will/can expound on it...I am waiting...sure sucks to me....except for some shopping.

WOW

Al G - 8-17-2007 at 09:20 PM
