I have been calling the la pinta in loreto for several days only to have the phone continue to ring off the hook.

any info would be helpful.

the # i have is

011-52-613-135-0025

losfrailes - 8-18-2007 at 01:09 PM

That is the number given, but the message says the number does not exist.

Someone from Loreto have a clue?

losfrailes - 8-18-2007 at 01:20 PM

They have changed their name to Desert Inn. That might help.

Every La Pinta/ Desert Innn I've stayed at has had a pervasive fecal smell. I would recommend the Oasis, a little tired, only eat breakfast in the restaurant. Other than that it's a cool place. I'm sure others more in the know will know other places.

The Oasis is also on the link I posted.
I too like the Oasis but La Pinta is ok too.

backninedan - 8-18-2007 at 02:37 PM

You may also want to try the Iguana Inn, nice and very reasonable.

805gregg - 8-18-2007 at 03:14 PM

I was in Loreto about a week ago and drove by the Pinta, looked like some construction going on and the pool looked closed, we stayed at the Oasis, a $130 rip off but maybe the best in town.

Sheesh, $130 for a week is not too bad.:lol::lol:

Baja_Girl - 8-19-2007 at 02:23 AM

Most likely, the Oasis is $130 per night. My friends have liked it - right on the beach. Close to everything. Iguana Inn is much less expensive but is not on the ocean and serves no food or beverage (you can buy and bring in, however.)

I would never stay at the La Pinta/Desert Oasis again...dogs are welcome there - which means fleas. I had no hot water in my room - after SCUBA diving and that was a drag. Consider it a blessing that you haven't gotten through to them.

boe4fun - 8-19-2007 at 10:51 AM

The Vagabundos have casitas available for rent in Loreto, check out their newsletter "Chubasco" or visit: www.vagabundos.com

Bob and Susan - 8-19-2007 at 10:54 AM

"The Vagabundos have casitas available"

those things are WAY away from the water:light:

capt. mike - 8-19-2007 at 03:58 PM

what happened to that place, villas de loreto? that had a dive shop, a pool and clean rooms? close to the water too i think.
who owns it, runs it now?

bajajudy - 8-19-2007 at 04:10 PM

mike
It closed a year ago and is now condo/villas, I believe...sorely missed I might add.

honda tom - 8-19-2007 at 04:33 PM

Well its not the hyatt...... but they have a huge parking area for my 50' of truck and boat that i have to drive to the ramp and back every day. the last 5 years we have taken 3 or 4 rooms for 5 or 6 days and the rate at 5 years ago was 50bucs a nite. last year they charged us 75 a nite. not bad with 3 beds to a room. is the oasis the one at the south end of the malecon with the palm trees?

I am hoping you are not insinuating that all hotels that accept dogs have fleas. I have
stayed in many that accept dogs and were very clean and "flealess"

backninedan - 8-19-2007 at 04:45 PM

Tom, you are correct on the location of the Oasis.

bajajudy - 8-19-2007 at 04:52 PM

Tom
Were you able to make a ressie through the link I posted?
Just curious!

honda tom - 8-19-2007 at 05:13 PM

the pinta just answered and are booked for the dates i need. talked to a guy named barret at coco cabanas, hes got the rooms but no room for the boat.
oasis wants 115 a nite for 2 beds, buy 3 nites get 1 free. do they have enough room in their parking lot for a crew cab and 25' trailer u turn?

bajajudy - 8-19-2007 at 05:26 PM

Yes I would think that you could get your rig in there. The lot runs the length of the hotel behind the rooms. I would think that it is very secure too. There is also a parking lot on the road but I would not want to leave a boat parked there.
Be sure to ask for a room on the beach with a patio. We had asked for some special suite or something but when we got there it was a two story structure right by the road.
The rooms are huge. Be sure to get one on the beach.

From The Baja Western Onion, February 15, 2007:

IF YOU FIND YOURSELF IN LORETO... - and need a place to stay, there's a hip little hideaway with a Euro flare...Hotel Luna. Straight from Switzerland, owner Alberto Besoni and his wife Karla built the three room hotel, and opened it last August, a block up from the Malecon on the northern end. The rooms are immaculate, with a 60's flare with flat screen TV and wireless internet. There's a great bar on the roof and you can order food from the Giggling Marlin restaurant next door.

Alberto arranged for a fabulous massage for me, too...by newly transplanted mainlander, Sergio Chavez. The rooms are 650 pesos a night and the massage was 300 pesos for an hour! Ask for directions to walk over to the brand new La Biznaga Galeria for hand painted clothing and fabulous natural and organic products.

I also recommend a great place for breakfast or lunch that most tourists would never find on their own....Cafe Sagitario, on the grounds of the Rivera del Mar Trailer Park. They offer a breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, potato, pancakes, and toast for 45 pesos! They offer chile rellenos, shrimp tacos, and hamburgers too. The most expensive items on their menu are rib eye and t-bone steaks for 110 pesos. Mother and daughter run...such sweet people...

My Oasis story:
5 years ago, turning 50 and needing a bit of down time to contemplate my impending slide into 'old age', I flew down to Loreto and spent a week at the Oasis. First morning there I woke up real late, about 10am, took a shower and walked over to my bed to get dressed. The door opens to the cutest young maid who gets a full on frontal nude shot of a fifty-year-old, slightly over-weight gringo who is trying to cover up with a wash cloth. :o
For the rest of the week, everytime I left my room to go to the bar or resturant I could hear giggles.

I also recommend Hotel Luna. A block from the Malecon, and the room I had was very nice. Alberto is a good man and didn't meet Karla. There is an upstairs bar and nice music. My room had a large TV with both Spanish and English channels.

Downside that weren't problems: the rooms all face the Laughing Dolphin, a MX restaurant. Tables are 5' away separated by a 5' wall. Fortunately, the music wasn't too loud -- I could hear it even with the TV on. The music knocked off about 10pm. Off street parking only. I have an alarm on my car and would not have been comfortable parking my loaded SUV there -- it's not a bad neighborhood. I'm just that way. Wireless internet wouldn't work with my Mac and after a vew attempts to connect, I gave up.

I'd stay there again but my first choice in Loreto will always be Las Cabanas. Booked well in advance and you'd be lucky to get accomodations short notice. Still worth a try. Tell Jill or Linda Lee said hola.

backninedan - 8-22-2007 at 01:07 PM

Tom,

Loreto Shores RV park has boat storage. I think the going rate is $60 a month, but not positive on the price.

honda tom - 8-22-2007 at 02:14 PM

saw the website worth checking out .. also looks fairly close to the oasis ......thank you dan.

Sounds like a fun time, except for driving in the dark towing a boat.

Why risk that on your vacation? (We left Ensenada at sunrise and made Mulege 1 hr before sunset in July.) You could be in Loreto driving in daylight (except border to Ensenada), by 10 am the next day and reduce your risk significantly.:?::?::?:

Drive carefully and have a good trip.

Baja_Girl - 8-22-2007 at 02:54 PM

Tom,
most people do take 2 days to do this...stop in Guerro Negro...roll around naked in the sand dunes just outside of town...there are hotels just minutes from Route 1 you can stay and safely keep your boat and stuff...
I wouldn't think of driving the road from Santa Rosalia to Mulege when I was tired...or in a hurry...be careful...

capn.sharky - 8-23-2007 at 09:42 AM

Iguana Inn is good. If you don't have a boat. So is the Hotel Junipero and Hotel Plaza Loreto both at about $40 per night and located in the heart of town. Short walk to everything. Plaza Loreto is home to the office of Pam Bolles and you can book fishing trips through her. She is the best in town and has the best pangeros. She runs a tight ship. Forget the Oasis and Desert Inn....too expensive and over rated.

honda tom - 8-23-2007 at 11:23 AM

crossing at 1 am we will be on the divided toll road till maybe 2:30 then a good 30 minutes to the south end of ensenada. so yes there will be about 2 hours of night driving ( early morning driving ) on the two lane. I wouldnt say its for everyone but it works for us.

1 drives mid california to ensenada, 2 drives ensenada to mulege, 3 drives mulege to loreto. (short lunch stop at san ignacio)

bajajudy - 8-23-2007 at 11:27 AM

Lunch in San Ignacio
Check at Ignacio Springs B&B and see if they are doing lunch. If so you can eat and go for a wonderful swim.
If not, Rice and Beans is probably the only place open for lunch.
If you dont stop there, Bofil has a line of truck stop-like restaurants that are pretty good.
