TJ con fdt!

On the way to Ensenada we had an extra night so we decided to contact fdt for his expertise and advice on where to stay on our way to Ensenada. I told him what I wanted to spend on a room (+or- $100), and he found us the perfect spot! Wow! This guy is on it! I called him when I was about a half an hour out and told him I didn't have Mex insurance yet and he told me right where to get off and get it, easy off and on at the last off ramp before crossing into Mexico. Then we met him right across the border according to his instructions, which were right on! We followed him to the motel and it was great to have his lead and his connections which turned out to be right what we were after! We visited and shared thoughts and info and then he had to break for his radio program at Ultimate Baja! We missed it cause I had to go to the bar for awhile and simmer down. We hooked back up after his show and went to Los Arcos for dinner. Wow! Some of you may have already been there, but I will tell you it's one hell of a place with excellent sea food and live entertainment! This was Wednesday night with nothing special going on I thought, but I guess it's this good or better everynight! Fernando is truly the "Ultimate" host! He is so congenial, informative, and the most layed back guide you would ever want. He ushered myself and Barb around TJ with such ease and confidence that we never felt any uncomfort or anxiety whatsoever. After dinner he took us to the Caliente racetrack/casino and gave us the history of it and everything else as we encompassed the area. Oh yeah, we did bet on a couple of races, but I didn't take Fernando's advice and came out on the losing end... figures... The next morning, we had friends moving down in boats from San Diego to Ensenada and were following them so unfortunately we had to cut our TJ experience a little short and head south. We missed the rest of Fernando's tour but made a vow to make it up later. He has a toy drive coming up in January, which he said is already establised and I hope all Nomads that are in the area and are able will try to participate and promote this worthy cause. I can't wait to go back! Tijuana has it's pluses and minuses but don't cross it off your list! If you have the desire and opportunity to see what it has to offer, please contact fdt and let him show you around! You won't be dissapointed, he is the perfect ambassador!

Wow, thanks Wayno for your kind words, I'm glad you and Barbara had fun and enjoyed the time we spent together and as you said, don't cross Tijuana off your list, there is a lot to do and you can have a great time here.
I'm looking forward to seeing you and other nomads for the January 5/6 toy drive.
Saludos
Fernando

Sounds like you had a great time, Wayno. I just knew Fernando would be a great tour host.... I'm getting to know more and more about the area from the border through Ensenada because of him. If I were you and Barb, I'd be sure to return for the rest of that city tour.

Los Arcos is very good food. Next time you go by the track, try out Merlot Bistro, a good restaurant just west of the track (you can walk there from the track)
