I've got some art prints I'd like to have matted and framed. Anyone know of a place in San Jose or Cabo San Lucas that does good work?toneart - 8-25-2007 at 12:45 PM

There is a place, Marca, I believe, on the road to Todos Santos just outside of San Lucas. There is also an outdoor furniture place next to it. It
is on the right side of the road going north. They do a nice job. We did not have good results from What a Frame and the prices were comparable.
Or for the big bucks you can take them to Kaki Bassy but you will be assured that it will be a good job. If they were really nice and important to
you, I would take them to her. She has a shop in Paraiso Mall. She has another shop but I would have a hard time explaining where it is.Cardon Man - 8-25-2007 at 01:07 PM
Thanks Judy. The info is much appreciated. I would like to have the prints done right so it sounds like Kaki Bassy is the way to go. Paraiso mall...Is
that the big one down town San Lucas?Eli - 8-25-2007 at 02:40 PM
Alas, I wish I knew someone in Baja that I could afford and gave a varity of opitions and quality work. I have a suitcase full of paintings and prints
that I am hauling down to my favorite framer in Oaxaca, where I will ship them home from, still, alot cheaper than Kaki. ni modo.bajajudy - 8-25-2007 at 02:45 PM
CM
That is the one. She is on marina level. The garage now charges 15 pesos but she will stamp your ticket...remember to take it and save a buck.
I am sure that you dont need my advice but I would take one to her and make sure you like the work before taking them all. You do have some choices!oxxo - 8-25-2007 at 03:49 PM

It is in the shopping plaza just north of the Dodge dealership. Get off the road at Dodge. It is easier and safer to enter and exit there than at
the plaza itself. I have been to this store three different times and have never found them open.

Kaki (real name Katherine) Bassi, husband Roger, and Dachsund, Macho, are my neighbors. She is an artist herself. She tells me that she is the only
artist to be granted permission and license by the Mexican Govt. to paint the petroglyphs in Baja. Some of these paintings adorn her living room
walls.
She has three stores - Plaza Paraiso, downtown San Lucas, and downtown San Jose. Her framing shop is in the downtown San Lucas location. Go to her
store in the Mall and they will give you instructions on how to get to the framing shop, or call the framing shop direct for directions.
I have had conversations with Kaki about her apparently high prices. She says she imports all her framing supplies from the States. She says the
Mexican framers get their supplies from the mainland which are generally imported from China. That means all her supplies are acid free. The stuff
from China is not. She uses highly detailed frames. The Mexican frames are relatively crude with imprecise detailing. Her glass is distortion free.
She uses expensive, state of the art miter saws with sharp blades for the frames. Generally she will use double and triple mats for added detailing.
She does all the framing for the local American artists as well as those in Todos. She also has a number of regular clients over on the mainland.
She says that if you have high quality, high value art then it merits high quality framing. If you have art that you are not concerned about future
value, then she feels that the Mexican framers are fine. She says that her prices are on par with a good frame shop in California. If you desire
personal attention, Kaki will be more than happy to meet with you by appointment.
