Cervisin - 8-25-2007 at 09:42 PM

I guess La Paz is racing again - sorry for my ignorance to all the off road fans - that got me totally unprepared. Dont even know what race tomorrow...,, just took a few poor quality shots as walking by and post 'em on my blog - hey, great place here at the Baja Nomad's, have to help and safe bandwidth......:bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

See the pics @ the La Paz Blog

They donīt allow Dogs or Bicycles in the Malecon anymore, but a hundred drunk Paceņos vomiting, and peeing all over the place is fine:rolleyes:

Jesse,

When did this ban on dogs and bikes take effect? Would be nice to take a stroll and not worry about the 'land mines' and a shout of "POOP ALERT!"

A few weeks ago, can't understand why they banned the Bikes.

Seems like most of the bikers took it pretty slow on the malecon and a lot of children with their bikes and trikes. Sounds like it will be hard to enforce over time.

How about roller blades?

Banning dogs? Pretty funny! I run the malecon from Marina de La Paz to Marina Palmira at dawn each day during our winter stay (5 months). The street dogs OWN the malecon at dawn. Their "land mines" are their contribution to creating awareness of holes, broken tiles, and trash that means one must watch where they step. Not a bad idea all over Mexico. Are the policia going to get involved, citing these trespassers?
There is one badly overworked animal control person for the entire city who tries to deal with the impressive number of strays. Just like in any habitat, take one animal out, you create a niche for another to move in.
Many gringos have helped out with adopting and paying for Vet care for these strays. One of the best ran Hacienda de la Cortez (Englebert's) as a shelter and provided transportation up to the states for adoption. But, she is gone. Mascotas de La Paz has been pretty inactive for the past few years. Gonna be pretty interesting when the winter folks with dogs and/or bicycles come down. It's a long way from Costa Baja Marina to downtown and the traffic is not generous to bicycles. It's a beautiful walkway, getting better each year. The old, broken sidewalk of the old days is gone and La Paz is certainly better for it.

Is she the wife of the manager? They lived in one of the casitas? One of their dogs scared the crap out of my son when he was much smaller - he startled the dog as we were leaving, and the dog started yapping away at him. She couldn't have been more apologetic, though it wasn't anybody's fault.
