I asked about tipping on another thread. Seems some people tip the gas station attendants and other don't. Would be interesting to find out the
consensus here.
Sorry about the extra buttons. Lesson 1 - don't put line breaks between the poll answers.

Did you say tip or rip?????????????????Bajagypsy - 8-29-2007 at 02:45 PM
I alway tip attendents in Baja. I even tip gas attendants here in Saskatoon in the winter. When it is -35 with a windchill that makes it -50, bet
your bum I'm not getting out of the car. The poor kid that stands out there for half and hour or so filling up 5+ cars, I think he deserves a $20.00,
saves me from freezing my bum off, and I think my butt is worth $20!!!Diver - 8-29-2007 at 02:49 PM
How about;
- I tip when I feel it's justified ?
Like the guy that noticed a leak in my air-bag line...
Like the guy that gave me great directions while he pumped my gas....
Like the girl at BajaCactus that danced and smiled all the wile my tank was filling....
Not like the guy that took 10 minutes to come out and talked to his buddy the whole, slow time, and spilled fuel on my truck and left it....
I rarely want my windshield washed but it seems hard to stop them without being rude. Any suggestions ?

I agree, when they deserve it. As far as windshields go, I don't like attendants or kids climbing up on my raised truck. They use no caution usually.
If I don't want them up there I simply wave my finger back n forth like a wiper blade and go "no-no" with me head.BMG - 8-29-2007 at 02:56 PM

I should have asked how much do you normally tip for normally expected service?
No special services. Not counting when the service is particularly good or bad.DENNIS - 8-29-2007 at 02:56 PM

I think she deserved a big tip, as badly as she had to go to the bathroom but chose to serve you first.DENNIS - 8-29-2007 at 03:03 PM

I'm sure it is but, is that size tip normal up there? I mean from people who tip. I'm surprised anybody can gather that much generosity after paying
the high price for gas. It's nice that you do.Bajagypsy - 8-29-2007 at 03:05 PM
I don't think very many people tip gas attendants here. I only do it if it is really cold. I figure if I'm the only one tipping, and the poor kid
doesn't set the prices, than they desrive it! It probably works out to around $60.00 a year.
A lot of times Mr. Gypsy gets out of the car and fills it!!!!

We just got back from British Columbia, spending 3 weeks driving back roads in Central BC--------boy, you got that right on the price of gasoline, and
everything else, too----------EXPENSIVE!!!! They must have high wages to be able to afford things, let alone tipping!!! $20 ???? Wow, I am
impressed.
Beautiful country, but prices are too rich for this guy. Diver - 8-29-2007 at 03:20 PM

I like to tip when it's justified.
I like to give out US dollars for gas station attendants on occassion.
And to the creative propane vendor that could fill my tanks without taking them off the camper.
They seem to like our money.
I am otherwise a "good" tipper, especially when the service exceeds my expectations.

5 pesos if s/he washes the windshield; 10 pesos if they do front AND rear windows.

The choices didnt really fit what I do.
I always give 5p.
I give 10 if they clean my windshield and mine always needs it!Diver - 8-29-2007 at 03:25 PM

10 pesos for front windshield, 20 if they do front and back (because in that case they frequently do the side windows as well).Mango - 8-29-2007 at 08:10 PM

Wow, I get my whole car washed for 30 pesos. I usually throw a beer, cold water, juice, and conversation, etc..
I thought of paying more but I don't want to mess up the local economy in my barrio. I am one of the few gringos around. 30 pesos is the price
everyone else pays, why should I be different? I tip what I can, I'm not exactly overflowing with pesos.
At gas stations I give 5 pesos(no windows, just pump the gas please), and I give 2 pesos to baggers at the market and/or parking lot attendants.Cypress - 8-30-2007 at 12:28 PM
As much as fuel costs and you're gonna throw in a little extra just for the
hell-of-it?DENNIS - 8-30-2007 at 12:35 PM
Man....It's hot out there today. The CFE guy just came by and read my meter so I had to go out and give him a tip. After all, it is service.bacquito - 8-31-2007 at 06:17 PM

I agree!! And if they check my tire pressure upon request. Some times the trash at our house exceeds the capacity of our trash container at our house
and I tip if I can use their trash "containador" to dispose of the excess.Mango - 8-31-2007 at 06:36 PM

Well they are pumping the gas for you. The attendant does not set the price, so it is not his fault.
In Alta California they trained all us monkeys to do it for ourselves a long time ago, so it is nice when someone actually does it for you.
5 pesos is not much to me.. but it really helps the guy working in the gas station. They will also be less inclined to spill gas on your car,
remember you, etc.. if you grease the wheels.Frank - 8-31-2007 at 08:41 PM
If they are on the ball and I get a good feeling {like @ El Rosario} I'll tip 20 pesos, but thats just me. Isnt 5 pesos somewhere around 50 cents?oxxo - 8-31-2007 at 08:46 PM
I do not tip for just pumping the gas. I tip 10p if they wash my windshield and/or check the tires. The bag boys at the grocery store get 2 or 3p.
It costs me maybe $25 total per year.
I do not allow the street guys to wash my windshield at the stop light in La Pa' or TJ.
