Check this out. U.S. give up our country's sovereignty? I thought we had a good guy in the new President of Mexico. First time I have ever been wrong. Perhaps we should just annex Mexico.

In his state of the union address to the Mexican nation, Calderon established his imperialistic imperatives: "I have said that Mexico does not stop at its border, that wherever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico. And, for this reason, the government action on behalf of our countrymen is guided by principles, for the defense and protection of their rights."

Mexico's citizens enjoy blanket constitutional protection, worldwide.

What a concept.

It did, however, contain a bone intended for politicians in Washington to chew on - perhaps with enough flavor to satisfy some of Calderón's detractors back home. That was the PAN pol's condemnation of Team Bush's policies, such as they are, affecting illegal immigrants from Mexico to the U.S. Calderón said, to "raucous applause": "I want to express again an energetic protest at the unilateral measures taken by the U.S. Congress and government which exacerbate the persecution and abusive treatment of undocumented Mexican workers....The Mexican government will continue to insist firmly...on the need for an integral immigration reform and the categorical rejection of the building of a wall on our common border." (Reuters) This, not from Dobbs, but from Reuters News Service---a very respected organization. There are others on the Webb with excerpts from the Presidents speech. Its possible that Dobbs took what was said (actually written) and expanded it a bit. I do believe, as a country, we have a right to guard our borders and check out who we allow to enter. This due to the terrorist threats to our country. Viva Mexico and Viva America!

Can you imagine if the president of any other country would have said this? Sounds exactly like something that would have come from Hitler.

Mexico believes, unlike its neighbor to the north, that her citizen's constitutional rights extend past her borders. Given that Mexico isn't in a position to enforce this belief it's mostly a symbolic gesture. Still, there can and have been instances where Mexican citizens have filed criminal complaints in Mexico against foreigners for crimes allegedly committed abroad.

Think that might could ruin your next trip to cancun? :lol:

I mentioned this somewhere above but, why doesn't Mexico start protecting citizens with their rights in Mexico? What about the indigenous population who are treated like two legged dogs? When they run the border and get involved in remitances and leave the ranks of the unemployed in Mexico, they're treated like abused expatriots with rights which were nebulous to them before they left. Dennis, that is exactly my point. Calderon is advocating immigration by telling people they will still be covered by their own constitution no matter where they are. It is a cop out.

I'm told that for a Mexican to offer help to an illegal alien in Mexico, the penalty is a fine up to MN10,000... even for giving them food or water...

Calderon is just being more overt than the other "one-world" presidents that exist all over the world.

You think both Bushes aren't thinking the same thing, but are prevented from verbalizing it by virtue of their conservative bases?

This is the dichotomy facing the Republican Party. With the complete globalization of the world's economy, their business interests are running counter to elements of the Constitution.

Isn't Calderon considered a conservative by Mexican standards?
