Into the Mountains of Mexico/pictures

comitan - 9-10-2007 at 04:13 PM

This last Sunday we went for a ride, ending up in the hills south of La Paz. At the top of the grade going to Los Planes we took a road to San Isidro; now, this is after the Hurricane, every small arroyo has 2-4inches of water in a small stream, every one of them had Mexican families set up for small fiestas. We continued on and ran into a larger river crossing, but still only 2-6" of water this was a large area with 20-30 cars, we were told that we could not continue and return to La Paz. We backtracked on the same road we came in on. We met head-on probably another 20-30 vehicles. We saw some very interesting tree trunk-roots and took some pictures; they are on the following web site. If someone can bring them onto the site much appreciated.

Thanks, Comitan--I've often wondered about that road. You saved me the trip!

Those roots are so weird, comitan. Part of that root mass looks like skin stretched between limbs. It's like hands holding on to those rocks.

Loved these photos. I did a painting from memory of a fig tree we saw on a hike to painted caves near Mulege. I was uncertain if I had captured a shape that was possible; it started to look really phoney to me. These photos let me know I had remembered something real.

Hope we can take that road sometime.

Thanks for sharing.
