i am traveling to the area with my daughter (adult) and want to check out mulege in december, and am trying to watch my budget. i read on one of
these forum pages about hotel squid being new, and low cost. i couldn't find it when i googled it. without having been there yet, it seems we might
prefer to be in town so we can walk around rather than drive everywhere (hotel serenidad was mentioned a lot, but it is 2 1/2 miles from town,
apparently. btw, the website says it is $65 for a single or double http://www.hotelserenidad.com/hotel.htm)
i am getting the idea from all the forums that i better make reservations for all my rooms at that time of the year. que' lastima! i much prefer
making my choices spontaneously. having never been to the area, i have no idea what i am going to find.
anyway, i'll stop griping.... i appreciate all the help you all have been on these forums, it has given me somewhat of an idea of what to expect.

the hotel squid is over behind sauls market...
i know you wouldn't know where THAT is but others may...
it's basicly a mexican business hotel...
clean but no frills...
you'd really like the serenidad but figure $75-80 with hotel tax included
you CAN walk to town but
figure a good 20 minutes along the river...really not too bad
go there sat night for the pig roast
another VERY overlooked place is Javier's Las Casitas in town...
VERY mexican with a GREAT restruant and patio
historical too...
wake up and get coffee and breakfast RIGHT there
i think this is a GREAT vacation spot for the "intown budget minded"
if you want to be in town i'd suggest Javier's place

thanks, i checked out that link, and it looks like just what i am looking for! the price is great, too! i am not looking for an american experience in
mexico. i used to live in san blas in the 80's, and would feel right at home steeped in the hospitality of a totally mexican environment.
great coffee sounds good too! i am just remembering what cofeein mexico is like....mmmmmm
is it true, then, that i will need to make reservations rather than taking a chance? i don't want a disaster of a holiday, as i am bringing my
daughter, (otherwise i would feel more flexible to just see what i could find when i got there)
also, i fly into loreto at 2 pm, will rent a car. was wondering if i should stay in loreto for a nite or 2 or just head right up to mulege...
i am trying to determine on this sjort visit whether i would like to live part time in the area. i am from oregon, so there are about 4-5 months of
rain i could do without.

it's ONLY an hour and a half drive to mulege from loreto...
"come on down"
rent a SMALL car as driving around town is an "experience"
make reservations...always
this ensures you a place to sleep
lots of other people here come from oregon too...

but if you're full send them to Las Terazzaz in town by the lavamatica.
great views of town from their balcony deck, only $30 to $35.

the first hotel that had the bank was the Hotel Mulege
good parking
Javiers Las Casitas is more in town and has the courtyard
I just got a good review on La Terazzasa too...the people that went there liked it...it's right next door to the laundry too

try cliff Taylor in the oasis. he has several rentals on the river. small casa one room that is nice and within walking distance. also bed and
breakfast rooms. when we stayed there while looking for a home to buy it was reasonable. we stayed by the month which was cheaper

thanks everyone, i have been checking out all your great suggestions.
i am reluctant to book my whole trip out, which is only 10 days, because it is difficult to know where i will want to go, after talking to a few
locals and seeing the place for myself.
for example, i read a blog about going to se the petraglyphs. that couple ended up staying at the ranch where they had lunch over night, because
there were so many other places to check out in the area. i want to be sensible, but also want to leave room for changes to the plan.
