ok, you guys all fixed me up for a hotel in mulege , muchas gracias, (i have a call in to javier at las casitas), so now i am wondering about santa
rosalia. i would like to check that town out , and the beaches on bahia concepcion. i do not have many other plans, except perhaps to see the
petraglyphs somewhere.
i am open to suggestions for what to do (bear in mind, this must 'look' like a vacation for my daughter, tho i am actually scoping it out for winter
retreat). is there a fishing charter you would recommend? and is that something we can book when we get there, or should we do that now as well?

There is a Las Casitas in Santa Rosalia too. Right on the water...ask for Brenda and tell her that the Nomads sent you. BUT in all honesty a day
trip from Mulege gives you plenty of time. Be sure to go up to the cemetary for a fabulous view and while looking at all those graves think about how
many people died in the mines there. There is a museum up by Hotel Francis(which has excellent breakfast). The museum is a max one hour. Go to the
bakery and buy some bread. There are some pretty good taco stands on the same street.

I like the ocean view rooms at El Morro. I think they run about 40 pesos per night. The hotel is located on the cliffs south of town about 4-5
miles.
We used to blow through Santa Rosalia but have been staying there more recently. There is so much to see and the people are really friendly. The new
plaza is a great place to take in the sights and sounds.
If you get a chance, explore the neighborhoods as well.

I havent been in a couple years but the ceviche plate at PLaya Negra on waterfront is an incredible deal and delicious. You are on a budget, as I
recall.

ok, i am torn. maybe i will do the day trip this time, and stay in mulege for a base. is it a good base for petraglyphs? any other 'must see' (my
daughter may not be accompanying me in the future) withiin reasonable distance?

This Las Casitas in Santa Rosalia has no business ties to the one in Mulege
and is run completely different
Javier in Mulege will set you up with a pangero...no problem
ask for Sr. Murillo he's a GREAT guide

but i'm a little baised
next door is Naranjos where you can get a very nice "rustico" place RIGHT on the water for $25 a night
i mean RIGHT on the water...
think about renting at Naranjos for the winters

All I could find on the website is that they "offer reasonable, economical rates" and hence my question for rates. I thought I had heard rates to be
about $80 USD but wanted to confirm.

Just got off the phone with Brenda. Rate is $60 per night, with one bed.
Playa Negras is still open and still serves fantastic meals.
Do not buy gas from the Pemex near Playas Negras nor from the station about 3 miles north of town. Famous for ripoffs. The Pemex near the old
foundry is well manned, honest and very busy. Not too many people using the other guys stations any more. I guess what goes around comes around.

Kid Jurel is a very good guide who can be contacted and made reservations in advance. I've watched him fish off the north end of San Marcos and the
man knows what he's doing.
I think he picks up his customers at San Lucas Cove RV park or the docks at Santa Rosalia. I don't know what he charges.
Now, if Mike (Kid Jurel, San Marcos Mike) is not available for charter there is an excellent guide with a fine Boston Whaler who charters out of San
Lucas Village. His name is Francisco Meza and his email address is francisco_meza_c@hotmail.com. He is an excellent fisherman and charges a great

Same thing around San Lucas. Diving on the eastern and southeastern side of Isla Tortuga is absolutely fantastic. Diving on the north end of Isla
San Marcos is also fantastic when water conditions are good.
