San Juanico- the Pacific side one (Scorpion Bay)...road conditions- paved or not???

As I understand it, there two in and outs of this area by road...one north and one south to Mex 1. Are they both paved now? Do you know? We are looking for a few days next week to this area to get away from the Bahia Concepcion August heat. Any ideas on lodging would also be appreciated as we don't plan to camp as we usually do. It's just a 3-4 day get-a-way quickie. :?:Gracias!

I travel frequently to San Jaunico. The north road, out of San Ignacio, is to be avoided by those trying to keep their vehicle in one piece.

The south road, from Insurgentes north to just short of La Purisima is 'paved'. Tongue in cheek with that. It is in a state of repair in lots of places but still very superior to the north road.

The last segment, from south of La Purisima to the coast and the town is all washboard except the last 10 miles or so which is the velvet smooth road promised for the future.

Lodging is kinda touch and go. Check with the Cantina out at the place they call first point.

Do an email to Jaime Adkins at jaime_sanjuanico@yahoo.com. He has as much knowledge of the area as anyone. However, he will probably be in La Paz until this coming Wednesday.

Its a beautiful place out there, a bay shoreline that is long, and clean. The people there are wonderfully accomodating as normal down here. And its much cooler than Bahia Conception.

We drove the south road in July and they were in the process of paving from the town to the south. I'd guess the first 6-10 miles from San Isidro are not paved but the road was fine. I can't help you with lodging.

8 miles south of conception is a graded road that crosses baja and comes out at san ysidro/ la purisma.

I traveled this road 2 years ago and it was beautiful. the road was graded and smooth. no problem at all for a 2 wheel drive pick up. a car would make it driven much slower.

the dirt section is only 34 miles as the road is paved at san ysidro. I drove by the road/hwy1 intersection last week and the road looked to be well maintained (as far as I could see). "no faster way to scorpion bay"
