Launching in Los Barriles

bearbait1 - 9-23-2007 at 09:38 PM

Does anyone know if there are any public use paved boat launching ramps in Los Barriles? Thanks

No there is not a paved ramp due to the huge shore break in winter, we launch up and down the beach from Pescadero to Rancho Leonero. Sometimes we carrry boards or use stones to help launch big boats. At the center of town people use the hard pack sand by Verdugo's campground to launch big boats and leave boats in the water anchored unless the boats can be pulled up overnight. The boats are left in the water overnight until about Nov 15th when the wind begins to be strong. The area provides multiple nice launch spots for 4 wheel drive vehicles. Ask Martine Verdugo's Campground for assistance or try calling Palmas de Cortez. Things change quickly so I may not be aware of recent new ramps. If it is a big deal you can launch at Bahia De Los Muertos and boat down.

Thanks, I could probably beach launch ok but was just wondering what else might be available. Are moored/anchored boats safe from theft?

One place in LB where I've seen lots of people launch is in Buenos Aires, at the end of Datil road (the first road on the right after the goat farm)

The Datil access cannot be used for the time being... the hurricane left 3-5' of debris that covers most of the beach up to the San Bartolo arroyo... I live on Datil and those that launch there ... use ATV's and 4-wheel trucks for small tin boats.. anything large wouldn't work because of the steep gradient... Verdugo's is a good choice for large boats and there may be a fee to use his access... Martin is a reasonable man but he is for profit... there are no paved public ramps... you might also look at the access area across from the Pemex(so of Palmas).. pangas launch there frequently... security of the boats at anchor can be a problem... you just don't leave ANYTHING on the boat overnight... it is Mexico..............

Muertos

I used to hang out in La Ventana years ago before the build up in Muertos. I now undertand LV is very different as well as I haven't been in years. So there is a launch ramp at Muertos? Open to the public? How much?

Thanks in advance - larry
