La Paz broadband & TV

Questions for La Paz area residents.

Who are you using for broadband internet?

What about TV? I see a lot of discussion about Dish when searching. I do have Dish here in CA on our sailboat and could keep the account open and take the receiver but not sure that's best. I saw another post about cable but not much info that I could find.

I believe that if you are within the service area in La Paz there is mexican DSL, Called Infinitum. About 70 bucks a month and nice and fast.

If outside the service area, you should consider Hughes (DirecWay).

TV will work fine in La Paz, but not with the small dish you are accustomed to using up north. It takes a large dish and perhaps needs two if you intend to get both the Dish Network satellites, the 110 and the 119.

Big dishes are available in Mexico, they just have to be ordered in to Baja.

I'm in Chametla (by the airport) Telmex provides DSL her so I use prodigy Infinitum, works great! If you can get a phone line in Centenario, you can get it there too. TV? Most people I know use Sky or Dish. The Dish people are constantly having problems. The Sky people don't get the same variety of programming but it is more reliable...I use La Paz cable. Not a lot of variety in English, only news is CNN, but we have been too busy to watch a lot of TV so it hasn't mattered.

Looks like the DSL is considerably more expensive in Baja Calif Sur than here in San Felipe. Telnor phone and dsl (Prodigy Aire), both for about $37 a month (Just paid Sept bill 391 pesos)

The prices I have been quoted for Infinitum in San Carlos, Sonora have been 39.00/month.

Can you confirm the 70 dollar cost, oldlady?

Hook,
I pay 449 pesos for "paquete Telmex512" includes Infinitum and 100 local calls. My local service is 156 pesos.

If do have to go with satellite you may also want to consider Starband.

About $600 for the equipment with a 1.2 meter antenna, then bring the equipment down and install it yourself or you can have it delivered and installed at your location for more.

Basic service is $49 per month

But in most cases satellite should be your last resort.

The prices on Infinitum vary based on which package you want. The most expensive one, consequently the one with the most band width, cost about 700 pesos per month.

There are lesser expensive packages.
