Camper San Francisquito to GN

El Comadante Loco - 9-27-2007 at 05:26 PM

Well I know this sounds loco but what do you think can a small Toyota class C camper make from San Francisquito to GN?. Is this muy loco?? There will be two 4x4s to help if needed... Your honest opinion please..

Thanks

I drove the road last in Dec. '01, and it was an excellent graded road then... I did not go through El Arco, but instead the newer, mostly unmapped route from Guillermo Prieto that follows Arroyo Purificacion (signed for Mision Santa Gertrudis access) to the El Arco-San Francisquito road.

That being said, it has been 5 years and the Baja 1000 used it last year... so conditions could very well be iffy... I fear your low ground clearance could be an issue and suggest tent camping out of a lighter pickup or SUV instead of the heavy camper...

Last year the road was pretty good, with the exception of a large number of deep washouts on the El Arco road. Even then, my guess is that you could probably make it, but I'm not sure how much fun it would be.

I would forget the road that was used as the Baja 1000 course (twice). It may be mostly unmapped, but every prerunner, off-road tour group and racer has been over that road. Multiple times.
