Hello Nomads,
I'm looking at go to SF for the first time in the first couple of weeks of this oct. and I'm looking for some info. I will be driving a lifted f-250 4x4 with a shell to sleep in and I will be fishing out of my kayak and on the shoreline. I will bring the normal tackle that I use for the sea of cortez. kroc's, heavy and lite iron, rapala's, plastic's, top water and some gear for live bait. I will top off the fuel and ice in Bola.

Some of the things I curious about is :

camping ( can you camp anywhere there's not a private property sign?)

where is the best fishin from shore or the kayak,what should I exspect to catch in next few weeks, whats the hot lure.

I would like to catch a roosterfish. Are they in the area? how do you catch the mullet or what other bait would I use.

I guess I'm getting excited and I looking to get even more pumped up.

I will have my baja travel companion. A large rotti/hound dog mix (holly)

I appreciate any help I can get

If you are going on the road from Bahia Los Angeles, be sure and stop in San Rafael for a couple of days...great fishing, quiet.
It is one of the favorite campsites that we have ever visited.
What is the guys name who lives there....he is such a nice person.
He will tell you where to camp and if you can drive down the beach a ways there is a really secluded site. He does not intrude on you at all. Really a cool dude. Take advantage of his local knowledge:yes:

His name is Pancho and you are right on. He's a great guy and San Rafael is a great place to stop in for a day or two.

Fishinsteve, if you don't already know, you'll come to a tire with a plastic bottle on the top, turn left there.

I don't have my map with me at this time but I believe after I visit San Rahael I can contine down to same road to get to SF No?

That's correct. Off the top of my head, Pancho's place is just a little over half way there.

Pancho is an awesome guy. I don't know SF that well and have only camped there once. But from what I recall, there wasn't many obvious places to camp....but we arrived as the sun was going down and didn't look around too much. I did catch a couple of halibut the next morning on a few casts....

Blue 3/4 oz Krocodile casting from shore. I think that trip was in December. Plenty of good fishing south of Pancho's place for triggers, bass, etc. Good halibut fishing from the beach. There is also a back bay with plenty of fish as well.

Dont think you will have much luck on the roosters (pez gallo) they are around but not in great numbers. Rooster zone dosnt really start untill quite a bit farther down. The only way to catch mullet that I know of is with a cast net. You have the right idea...krocs, rapalas, plastics and live bait if it is around (make sure to bring some sabikis to catch macs with). There is a small operation there and you can camp or stay in one of the cabanas and should be able to buy beer and ice and gas there also. The shoreline is loaded with halibut, triggers, bass and the yellow tail bite there can be pretty hot, Oct is kinda late in the season though. I have heard of yellow tail being caught from shore in SF. You can expect the fishing to be very similar to BOLA. Long drive and its a a Rough road, make sure you have a spare or two! Check the place out on google earth, it will give you the lay of the land and surrounding waters.

Just to be on the safe side, take enough ice and beer to last you, and enough fuel to make it back to Bahia from PSF. Pancho also would appreciate a six pack of Tecate as well as a gallon of drinking water.
