am i correct in thinking that alaskaair will expect to see a health cert for each pet carried as baggage? upon arrival in sjd, will the officials
require to see the same paperwork? any fees to be paid on arrival in mexico?

Yes... they will require a health certificate and last January the girl that asked for mine, told me to bring a copy next time
I have never been asked for that in the States
or Canada. There were no fees at the airport upon arrival, only the fees you pay alaska air to fly with a pet.

I have flown my Lab from Portland to Loreto four times since December and I have always been asked by the airline at check-in for my dog's health
certificate.
The Agricultural guy at the airport in Loreto asked for the certificate once when we flew in, but now he is used to seeing us, so we chat about
puppies (he wants one!) and the like.
When we return to Oregon via LA on Alaska, the Agricultural guys at US Customs and Immigration only want to know if we have DOG FOOD, which they
confiscate.
When you part ways with your animal in his crate, of course you worry a bit whether he is going to be loaded onto the right aircraft. Alaska has a
gate agent bring up a courtesy card that says "Relax, I'm on board too".

Here is the routine as we have experienced it many times:
1. Make a reservation for dog(s) (there is a limit on number of dogs per flight.)
2. Health certificate (within last 7 days) must be presented at the Alaska counter at check-in, Alaska wants $100 each way for dogs that fly as
baggage.
3. Alaska staff put various tags (live animal, this side up, ID form) on crate and set crate aside until 1 hour before flight
4. An hour before flight you take the crate and the dog to the oversize baggage area. Dog crate is inspected, swabbed for explosives, the dog is put
in the crate. You may not touch the dog or crate after this process is completed.
5. Once the dog is placed in the airplane cargo hold, a note confirming delivery is given to you by the flight attendant.
6. After you clear Customs in at the San Jose del Cabo ariport you wait by the baggage carousel for your dog to be pushed through the opening. (I
suggest you be right there because this process is very casual, our dog's crate was shoved though and kinda fell.)
7. You then take your dog and your bags to the Xray machine.
8. After you press the button, (so far we get the green light), a young lady will ask for a copy of the health certificate(s)
9. You will then walk the timeshare gaunlet, many people will pull out their cell phones for photos, go through the doors: you and your dog are now
on Baja soil.
Alaska treats dogs well, our dog take this trip twice a year. Good luck.
