tourist permit question - Algodones entry

hi again,

I have the same tourist permit question as last week but now for entering at Algodones. I called it an FM3, but really we just need tourist permits - I got them mixed up!

We have revised our route to Baja and are now thinking of entering Mexico at Algadones.

Does anyone have experience with this crossing and can we get our tourist permits and pay for them at a bank in Algodones?

Thanks for any information you can offer!

Immigration is on the right just after entering Mexico (before the left curve). Haven't looked, but must be a bank pretty close.

BTY, thats the only place I've had to show my FM3 when entering.

gringorio Yes as bajalou said Immigration right there. Then go an other 25 yards and on your right is a small (like mall), about in the middle (straight in is one of those MICRO banks ---(the guy in it put on a great show of stamping docu. and right back to Immig. The only problem we had was the place (Immig.) was empty (NO one there for 20 min. --(thought of borrowing his stamp and stuff)) -- have no knowledge of the road out, as we crossed at Tecate. The line returning to USA that evening was substantial.

A little off topic; but, about the same area.. so here goes...

I have read that you don't need temporary auto importation permit to drive to Rocky Point from Arizona; but, I was wondering about driving to Rocky Point from the Mexicali area. Where/when do they check for the temporary auto permit? Is this allowed, or do I have to enter from Arizona to get the Rocky Point exemption? Just curious to see how far I can roam. :D

I've also heard of a auto permit just for Sonora that is good for 180 days.. I'd be interested in that.. except you have to return it when you leave. :(

The auto permit in Sonora is issued at a point that is east of the turn to go to Rocky Point so no permit required.

All Auto permits are valid for as long as you are legal in Mex. If you get have a FMT, auto Temp. Imp. Permits are good till the FMT expires - 180 days if you just got it. And yes they have to be removed by the Banecero? personnel. If you have a FM3 or FM2, the auto permit is valid till the FM2-3 expires - including renewals.

You can have a Auto permit that is issued in Sonora canceled and removed in Mexicali - but only at the old, downtown crossing.

bajalou, now it is the new East Port in Mexicali where all of the removal happens. The old port does not do it anymore. I went there last year to get my permit to go to Los Mochis and told to go to new East Port. I did and it was fast and Immigration is in the big building as you stay in the far right lane closest to the building and just roll your window down and tell Secondary that your going to Immigration and head straight on about 30 yards to parking spaces. The Bank is in the little office building and then walk that 30 yards back to Immigration to get tourist card and then back to Bank for the auto window sticker. Had my 6 month permit removed at the East Port when it ran out. Later==========bajafun777

I was there today... Check your U2U... The Indians have doubled the size of their parking lot and now charge $5 bucks for parking. I should have drove in and gassed up and would have saved that five plus more on the fuel. There was no line (at 9 am) at the pedestrian or vehicle crossings. I walked across and picked up some meds and was back to my truck in 15 minutes. Then went in to Yuma and paid $2.69 at the ARCO (same as in Blythe)....

I live in Yuma and so cross over in Algondones many times. It is easy to get and pay for a tourist visa but they will not get involved in FM3 matters. They will instead refer you to San Luis, Sonora.

Price of gasoline is adjusted to be about the same as in Yuma. Have to go quite a ways to get the cheaper gasoline. No diesel at the station in Algodones. (I forgot this last time I was there)
