Your absolute favorite place in Baja

Bajagypsy - 10-6-2007 at 07:31 AM

I thought it would be fun to find out everyone's favorite Baja hangout and why it is.

I'll start:

It is hard to say that we have one favorite, but if we had to only have one it would be Asuncion. We both love the feeling of the town. The people are all very friendly, and we have yet to meet anyone that we didn't like.

The views there are amazing, and it just does your soul good to sit and watch the ocean with a c-cktail for hours and hours.

San Roque is a close second, we love the remoteness the fact that you can sit for hours and not see another living person that whole time. Our children love San Roque, as it is a place that they can run to the ocean at 5:00 in the morning, and sit and watch the sunrise, as they create cities in the sand, collect shells, and practice their swimming/surfing skills.

Both BOLA, and the Bay of conception need honorable mention. We all love being able to wake up in the morning on the beach, and go for a swim. Snorkling is fantastic for the kids, as they can spend hours doing it and not worry about being sucked out to sea!

How about you, what are your favorite places, and why?

To date it's San Francisquito, but I think that might change if I could ever get down to Asuncion :)

The deck at Casa Loma... our yard in TS, at 7am as the sun is coming up! I love to look down the valley and hear the sounds of the town awakening!
... I am getting very excited:bounce::bounce::biggrin:

Since we thought we would never buy a place in Baja and have now done so, Asuncion wins.

Actually, we just think this whole area is amazing.

Second place would be Gonzaga but only in the winter. For a city, it is a toss up between Mulege and Loreto. Well, now that I think about it, I could add many places to the list, but this is the one that reached out and changed our mind about buying a place here. We LOVE it.

For a city it's La Paz. For a location just about any dirt road near the water, although running around Mikes Sky Rancho is lots of fun.

Mexitron - 10-6-2007 at 09:36 AM

There's some favorite places, which don't having any names, but the most fun I have is exploring, especially the central desert...gettin' there's half the fun!

Mision Santa Maria rates really HIGH on special (very special) places to visit in Baja!

I am working on a web page for our recent trip there (last May), including the big horn sheep encounter... It is still under construction, but you can have a peek!: http://community-2.webtv.net/vivabaja/msm

Yea right!?!
Like I'm gonna tell all you guys were my favorite spots are!?!
Last thing I need is a bunch of Nomad yahoos trekking over the dunes, the sides of their faces bathed in moonlight, and walking into my campsite while I'm enjoying a crystal clear view of the constellation Scorpio and listening to the swells as they march across the successive reefs, bringing a bunch of cold cerveza's purchased at the little tienda by the avocado groves, and wanting to pee in my campfire!!
Nice try, Gypsy...but it ain't gonna work!
And I'm not giving you any clues, either!!!!

Skeet/Loreto - 10-6-2007 at 11:18 AM

Loreto in the Past!!

The bumpy streets, the quiet pace,
The calm content on every face.

The roosters crowing day and night,
Not one is heeding dark or light.

Profuse array of stars hang low,
Create an awe-inspiring show.

The sun is brighter, air more clear,
And when i hold my breath I hear,

The sound of living all around,
a Laughing child, a barking hound.

The spark'king sea forgets to roar
as it caresses rock and shore.

Silv'ry fish go chittering by
Frigates and gulls command the sky,

Pelicans dive and sardines run
to them it's life to us it's fun.

Fisheman leave at early light
Returning home before it's night,

Happy faces weathered and tan,
knowing here, a man is a man.

Sands of desert and beach combine
with lava from some past time

Cactus and palms side by side
and climbing blossoms try to hide

Among the branches, leaves and thorn
Splashing brightness, color of corn.

Palo Blanco, graceful Pitaiya
Cirio, Cardon, Tree of Fire.

God let imagination soar
when He designed this desert floor,

And , hopefully, someday you'll find
with sham and pretense left behind,

What seems like desert up ahead
is lush oasis instead.

Your very special secret place
where you, yourself come face to face.

And when you do, you'll almost see
some part of what it means to me--

Loreto's Past

The roof patio on top of our casita in Todos Santos.

We watch the sunset almost every night. Green and blue flashes almost every day for the last two weeks...

Sallysouth - 10-7-2007 at 09:30 PM

I just realized Jack Swords had a pic of the cove I mentioned in my post as "Little Whale Cove" That is a very old picture but it was beautiful last time I was there (5 yrs?):( Ummm, maybe I am wrong here... could it be Marquer Bay?:?: Jack???

The cove in the photo is on Isla Partida, Ensenada Grande. Not a nice place to be during a Norther. Across the water is Bahia Coyote/Punta el Mechudo area.

lovebahia22 - 10-8-2007 at 12:30 PM

anywhere in bahia de los angeles. from in town to out the in the channel...and if you know bahia you know why i couldn't pick

DEVEAU - 10-9-2007 at 02:53 PM

Mike's after a long/ hard ride. Best in the dark with no fuel left. Rain and/or snow helps.

Also the entire area around Catavina.

bajabound2005 - 10-9-2007 at 07:15 PM

Do I HAVE to pick ONE place? ALL OF IT...sorry, FDT but - except TJ! Maybe we'll like it better after we take your tour.

Iflyfish - 10-10-2007 at 07:51 AM

Paula - 10-10-2007 at 10:02 PM

Our place on Calle Zapata in Loreto is hard to beat, but Bob and Marilyn's place (or is her name Jane?) is really nice too.

La Sierra de San Francisco is AMAZING!!!!! And Comundu es muy bonita. The plaza in SanIgnacio is a delight, and the back yard at Casa Leree is so beautifully full of spirits, it may be truly sacred ground. And there is the beach at Coronados, crowded though it may be, and Playa Ensenada Blanca, which I hope we will be able to go to forever, and Balandra in La Paz, especially when the tide is low, and that place between Loreto and Mulege with the pictographs, and SAN JUANICO!!!!

Favorite??? You must be kidding....
