The three times I have flown out of Mexico in the past two years the airlines wouldn't check me in until I went to Immigration. At immigration you
fill out a form, they stamp it and they stamped my FM-3.
I have only departed by car once and I had it stamped. It took all of 10 minutes and my legs needed the stretch anyway.CaboRon - 10-10-2007 at 07:29 AM

They are very strict about this at SJD.. and if you leave by car and return by plane they most definately want to see that exit stamp........if all
you do is drive back and forth you only need that exit stamp if you do not return before the expiration date.
At SJD you have to go to the departure area to get that exit stamp,

Our experience has been the same as CaboRon.
So... I have the little "document" that they gave us when we flew back to Canada,

I tried once to have it stamped in Tecate...and they just gave me a blank stare and said it wasn't necessary. I think I flew back in that time and
just got a tourist visa rather than deal with why don't you have a stamp.
so flying yes, or driving and anticipating flying back, yes would try but not sure how to do that unless maybe one would 'stop' at GN and have it

If you have an FM3 and get a tourist visa too, you are breaking the law and can be fined.....one friend almost $500...not pesos.
You can only hold one visa. You may get away with it but if you dont it could be an expensive chance you took.

I voted "sometimes" because the first two times we left by car we didn't know we were supposed to. If anyone ever looks really closely they might
wonder where some stamps are - hope they don't ...
Leaving in a couple of weeks through SJD - I was tempted to just go up on my passport, but guess I'll do the migration thing. I've been out of Baja
too much time in the past two years - my working FM3 requires me to be here for more than 9 months a year. But had to sell house, had family issues
that needed me there ... luckily I'm also sort of a dependent of Amir - can hardly get him to leave for a day!
