After all the laffs are done, be careful just south of Ejido San Lucas, and at the entrance to San Bruno (also about 1/2 mile further south) and near
Palo Verde.
The federales have been really active there lately and they ain't using tecate cans painted black nor hair driers.
They will ruin your day if you are speeding!DanO - 10-10-2007 at 04:33 PM

when in the central desert (and many other spots, i presume) the posted speed limit is 60 km/h where there is a straight-away for the next 1-2 miles,
no hills, etc.....
are you really supposed to slow down from 110 km/h?????? is this the same type of speed trap "los frailes" is talkig about???
losfrailes - 10-10-2007 at 04:44 PM
What speed trap are you talking about, Woody?
Is that innuendo that you are gathering?
All I am offering is advice to a traveler with a legitimate question.
Slow down if you want, speed if you want. Who gives a big rats arse?roundtuit - 10-10-2007 at 04:47 PM
Radar is probaby at Scotty' El Candil Having a Marg and a Lobester Taco Where I weill be next week..Wher will you be FTD woody with a view - 10-10-2007 at 04:51 PM
only asking if the situation is the same. a 35 mph (35 years old, probably) sign in the middle of nowhere that the cops can point to and say, "you're
speeding!"
i don't know the area you're refering to that well. that's why i ask...

I thought ftd radar was funny...but just to clarify...I don't need to know where they have radar...I live in the slow lane. next to Ron I am surelosfrailes - 10-10-2007 at 05:08 PM
BCS is using radar in many of the populated areas because people have been ignoring the 30-40-50-60 KM limits near populated places.
It seems no different to me than what is encountered in the US, all over California you have radar functioning to 'entrap' the speeders.
And for the record, if you exceed the speed limit, as I many times do, you are speeding. There is no place on Mex 1 south of Ensenada where the speed
limit is greater than 80 KM.
If you are in one of those desolate areas, and encounter a 60 km sign, for whatever reason, and do not slow down and get caught by radar, don't blame
the Federal police. Look at your own speedometer!DENNIS - 10-10-2007 at 05:18 PM
Another spot with frequent radar is the south end of Ensenada, near the military bases. They work in teams, almost as though it's an academy drill.
Those are city police. Past Chapultepec going south on HWY 1, the feds take over. This entire stretch of road, HWY 1 through Ensenada to the
south side of Maneadero is posted 60km/35 mph. Almost nobody drives that slowly but, you should.roundtuit - 10-10-2007 at 05:26 PM
Thanks for the info. Al will probably see you again in Jan

First Gringo: I got clocked doing 30km over the speed limit.
Second Gringo: Clocked? The cops don't have radar.
First Gringo: So?fdt - 10-10-2007 at 05:44 PM

Just went through radar, top of Mirador hill, heading south. Right after the posted speed limit drops from 65 to 55. Be careful out there.losfrailes - 10-11-2007 at 05:20 PM
Just got to witness two vehicles being ticketed in a 60km zone south of San Lucas. They passed me when I was doing 80 km. I passed them about 5
minutes later, both outside their vehicles talking to the Federales with a lot of arm waving.

I had a friend I ran into at San Juanico, who got caught by radar somewhere n. of San Ignacio. They hasseled him a bit telling him he was in big
trouble for speeding, he admits to doing 90. He is 62 and riding alone on his motorcycle from Reno. He rode in the n. road to San Juanico. He looked
at the cop car and they had a camcorder set up to look like a radar unit. They took him for $100. Same BS new scam.DENNIS - 10-11-2007 at 07:16 PM
Well, I asked this question on another radar thread a while back and don't recall any kind of reply. Are radar detectors legal here? Does anybody
really know? If, as they say, traffic laws are basically the same on both sides, they would be legal. I think there are a couple of places in the
states where they arn't, DC and maybe Virginia and illegal everywhere for vehicles over 10,000 lbs. Anyway, that's all I think I know.
