farmers market.

I used to work in a produce market in a previous life. I always enjoyed the organic "Del Cabo" cherry tomatoes. Maybe they can provide you with more info on sources of local organic produce.

thanks for the tip, however Mexicali is a little too far to drive for groceries.

The link is for a group of farms that produce organic produce in BCS, mostly in the cape region I think. So check it out and maybe contact them.

The info about the Mexicali markets was for others a little closer to me that may be interested.

BTW - I just happened upon it by accident one day, so you may have a similar market near you.

There is a farmer's market/swap meet/whatever that is quite large up by the cemetery in La Paz. I believe it is a couple of days each week. Been there once, lots of local fruits, vegs etc. Depends on the vendors. Drive up there and ask around with neighbors.

As far as organic, several farmers in the Todos Santos area supply organic vegs to the states. There was an organic stand on the highway in Pescadero for many years and I know several local farmers in the Pescadero area that call themselves "organic" producers. Part of the fun of Baja is asking around and meeting folks. Please post any info you get!

seen your post and did a little research. Have not come up with much yet. Maybe another Nomad will.

Until more lucky or have local knowledge on options for health foods lol, – I prefer to kill myself slowly with greasy burgers and beer….

I noticed, in another thread you wrote, that you go to Todos Santos on occasion. Here's a place that provides Organic Veggies to some TS establishments. Maybe they sell to the public , too. Let us know if you find out.

We shop at 3 farmers markets in La Paz. One is one Nicolas B and I think Altamirano about 4 blocks above the Malicon, it almost totally enclosed and has some parking at the corner near the great Carnitas place. They have a great fish area, three butchers, one good bacon spot, lots of small food tiendas and a sprinkling of produce stands. There is another spot near Lay's, its on Agustin Olachea right across from the Oasis Motel. They have tons of produce and the best cheeze factory in La Paz called La Cremoria. We have the best time in La Paz when we spend the night and take our time shopping, breakfast at Maria's is our most treasured reward, its on Abasolo with it brite green awning at about Nayarit, get the combo especial, it 50 pesos and come with fresh juice, coffee, fruit bowl, scrambled eggs and ham, potatoes, beans and torts, all served on a table cloth, nice music, hanging plants etc...

Breakfast at Maria's sounds great but the B&B I booked comes with a proper cooked breakfast, so I'm wondering if Maria's does lunch or dinner?

Did you hear back yet from the 'slow food' person in Cabo San Lucas? I'd be interested to learn about any particularly 'organic' restaurants in Cabo, or Todos Santos, or La Paz, or any grocery places or farms that tend toward organic in those locations.

Organic Market in San Jose every Sat from 9-1 at the Jockey Club starting next Sat. Nov 3.
Many restaurants here offer organic salads. The restaurant, Tequila, only used organic vegies but you will pay dearly for them. Santa Fe in TS grows all their own organic vegies but rob a bank before you go. That said, it is worth the price for the delicious food there IMHO.

Oh I forgot. There is a slow food restaurant in San Jose, too. It is called Don Emiliano's(I am not sure about the Don part!) It is across the street from the Tropicana where the Iguana bar used to be(sure do miss that place)

Thanks! the chef at Don Emiliano's (or as you said, maybe it is just Emiliano's),
is the guy mentioned on the Slow Food web site that someone else on this thread mentioned. I wonder how pricey the restaurant is.

I did receive an email from the organic farms people saying someone from this area would contact me...that was ten days ago. and I have heard nothing....so I sent anothery query.
