Hello,
A few years back when we were in La paz during Day of the Dead, there were many alters set up and dances, plays and music. It was pretty fun and interesting. Does anyone know if is is celebrated yearly in La Paz that way?? We have noticed it varies depending where in Mexico you are. In parts of the Yucatan it was quite somber. Thanks , Greta

Yes, that would be more or less the same. La Paz has great cultural events. Period.

The celebration varies throughout the country. Although, I've yet to visit La Paz I would think that things would be similar this year to what you have experienced in the past in the same location.

I have been to a several different towns on the mainland during this time. The amount and intensity of celebration can vary quite a bit, but it varies by region, not by year IMO.

Some shrines can be quite elaborate and large, while others small and simple. The feeling of the holiday can also vary from somber to jovial. Dia de los Muertos is quite unique and is my favorite Mexican holiday. I am looking forward to it this year here in Mexicali.

During my first trip to Mexico in the mid-90's I traveled to the city of Oaxaca via train during the days leading up to Dia de los Muertos. It was something I'll never forget. We past a few cemeteries adorned with marigolds, candles, and bread. The train was packed with locals, boxes, candies, and bundles of marigolds all on their way to Oaxaca.
