On my last trip I stopped at the minimart on the north side of the hiway in El Rosario (#26 on David K's map, I believe) and asked if he had any ice.
"Yes", he said, and went around the corner. 5 minutes later he came back with a bag and I threw it in a small ice chest, unopened, and took off. A
few blocks later the stench was unbarable; I stopped, opened the chest an nearly fainted. I dumped the whole mess on the ground and the bag broke,
exposing all the ice, some of which was pink-to-red. I bought a new bag at the next store and put the chest in the bed of the pickup on my new
bedrug, a carpet bed liner. It took me 2 days to get the smell off my hands but the spot where I sat the chest still stinks. It's been 6 weeks and I
have shampooed the area a bunch of times but whenever I open up my camper shell I still get a strong whiff. Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell
in the carpet? I was told later that I got some ice from a fish truck specially bagged for me and to only buy ice from a marked freezer. I like
little reminders of my trips; you know, this scratch or that shell or these stones but I can really do without the smell.

Lo
siento!
There are some enzyme type cleaners that claim to remove smells, but this sounds like a lot more than piddle from a poodle or whatever. Good luck!

Try something with a lemon base.

Sounds like you have a 'scratch 'n sniff' reminder from that trip! Only no scratching required with that stinky finger! It reminds me of the old days
when you never knew where the ice came from, you only knew it was hard to come by, cold and not to be eaten.
Have you tried making a paste out of Baking Soda and scrubbing it into the stinky spot? Maybe let it soak for awhile till it hardens? Just a
thought..,

But it normally was a green or slimmy blue back then. Never meant for a mixed drink or even tea.
YUK!
Hook, I knew some one would come up with that meaning.......thanks or it would have been me.

I would try Nature's Miracle: http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Miracle-Remover-Gallon-gallon/...
If the "stinky stuff" was organic, it will take care of it.

Roberto is right on. Natures Miracle works really good and doesn't just mask the smell....it has enzymes that break down the stench so it goes away
for good. I have used it successfully several times when my dog had a bad day.

I too agree with Nature's Miracle. It's available at most pet shops. Definitely Petco & Petsmart. REALLY soak the area and give it a few days
to dry. When it's completely dry the smell should ge gone.

Hilarious subject title!
I'm with the others on Nature's Miracle. It's gotten vomit and diarrhea smells out of my mom's carpet (Mexico-induced diarrhea from my
daughter--sorry Mom!), not to mention all the fun accidents from my cat. It's widely available at pet stores. Good luck, Stinkyfinger--I mean
Santiago!

I think Santiago has made a new name for himself.....
First thing this morning I read about Bernie's issues with bunched up panties and now this....

Seems like blood is part of the smelly problem. I heard that using a mixture of water and meat tenderizer dissolves this kind of stain really well.
Also, you can help mask a bad odor in a vehicle by throwing a few "bounce" sheets back there (normally used in a dryer). I know this really works
well in smoke smelly cars if you put bounch under the seats.

Santago,
Get the Natures Miracle and please let us all know how it worked.
Santiago - 10-21-2007 at 06:53 AM
Thanks - the Natures Miracle worked perfectly. Sorry to turn the board into a Helpful Home Hints but I did get the ice in Baja.......
Hook: good one there - I sidestepped this issue by offering to do everyone's dishes in camp but got some odd stares in the process. Probably rumors
circulating camp know about the 2 guys in cabin 11 who never come down with their wives.........(not that there's anything the matter with that)
