A friend of ours just showed up in Loreto with a ,to me, new way to receive TV. In Sacramento has a slingshot box connected to his comcast cable
provider and via his laptop here can transfer, via the internet, all the programming he pays for to his 32 inch TV screen. He says that with the
latest laptop you can even get the programming in HD. The laptop even shows a remote like the one we're used to and works like the one you have next
to you on the couch.
This is all news to me and since I have never seen it mentioned anywhere in the forum, must be new to most participants

Works well. You basically control your tv over the internet and view it. You can also plug a webcam into a secondary input and see what's going on at
home.
It needs good downstream bandwidth. Satellite internet will work, keep bandwidth limitations in mind.

I was wondering why this isn't in much wider use here with lots of people already having cable and such in the States.

Keeping bandwidth in mind is extremely important. Chances are if used with consistency you will exceed you FAP limit with Hughes. Then you are down
to real slow dialup.
If you are on Infinitum and paying the top price you can probably use it effectively.
Just remember that there is a FAP (Fair Access Policy) on the satellite internet providers.
