Ferna, You Are Doing a Terrific Job

bajamigo - 10-22-2007 at 07:05 PM

At this moment, I'm listening to FDT's running commentary on the fire situation in Baja and environs. This guy is bright, caring and involved, and he's knocking himself out gathering current news. His radio station really deserves to be on the air.

Thanks to all of you, forgive my stuttering (spelling?) but I'm reading in spanish, talking in english and moving a mouse.
Bajabound wants to know about Ensenada and what I talked about on air was about 4 fires burning in the Ensenada area:
Ojos Negros
San Antonio de las Minas
La Mision
El Tigre
at least 3 homes burned in Ojos Negros and one in Colonia Morelos, all of these were humble woden houses.
One wind event was the closure of Avenida Pedro Loyola were a power pole was going to fall, this was in INFONAVIT Punta Banda between Villareal and Floresta.
Another closure was downtown Ensenada on Calle Mar between 9th and 10th were a tree fell ona pick up truck.
One more was on 4th Between Blancarte and Castillo were a billboard fell on 2 vehicles.
Total # of injured 62.
This is all I have Bajabound 2005
saludos

I see no evidence of fire in La Mision. 1/4 mile north over the hill. Can anyone else confirm this?

Is the P.B. fire department on that one, or are they sticking close to camp?

Sr. Pabloff and other land owners had a meeting this afternoon at which is was decided to keep all firefighting apparatus in the camp. Their position is that they have enough resources to protect homes in the area but are not equipped to fight fires in the hills. Knowing the equipment they have, I think you'd agree with their decision.

They were probably small fires, you can see the smoke remains here
