Maneadero eats

BajaVida - 10-29-2007 at 08:11 PM

we are headed south in February and are looking for a good place to eat in the Maneadero area

we will be in a 6+ vehicle caravan so we need ample parking areas and of course good food

roadside stuff preferred

atmosphere optional

thanks

On an earlier post, check out Dos Hermanas, right at the turnoff for Estero Beach. The Best! Parking could be a problem if you are towing tho. There are some really good tacos stands there also.Do a search here (top left of the purple bar)

Cafe Jalisco -- an eat-in restaurant, traditional Mexican with a special of the day. On the right hand side, bit past the 2nd stop light (after the turn to Bufadora). Building is all white. The Caldo de Res is a regular special; of Friday, some thing with fish. Sometimes the albondigas de pescado, sometimes camarones ranchero, other times a breaded filet. All excellent.

2nd choice - Los Poblanos Tacos, on the left. There are 2 in Maneadero, in case you miss the first one which is a block or so after the 1st stop light (after the turn to La Buf), on the left hand side. If you miss that one, there is another one after the 2nd stop light, also on the left-hand side of the road. EXCELLENT TACOS.

Something a little more upscale, Los Molcajetes. Hang a right at the turn to La Buf and take another right just before the first speed bump (new since last summer). Order anythng from the seafood menu including the soups (and a bowl of any of these soups is a MEAL). Plenty of parking!

Or.... Go another twenty miles and eat at El Palomar in Santo Tomas. A much more peaceful setting with a bar and good food.

Forgot to mention the gas station.

Order the codorniz (quail) at Palomar. If they're not on the menu, ask anyway.

El Palomar

we used to go there regularly to eat and camp, but have decided to camp at the secret campground on the way to the ocean

it seems like the last few years the food has been going downhill and last year it was terrible

that is why we are looking elsewhere

Don't know if it's still there, but we used to like a roadside place called Mariscos Sinaloaense. It was a little south of Ensenada on the west side of the road. Mija Coleen talks about it here in her log from a trip we did in 2001.

I would be interested to know if it is still there.

Sits by itself by the farm fields, big palapa style roof, between Chapultepec and Maneadero? Still there. Can't comment on the food, been too long since I've been in there. Hopefully, they still have that Negra Modelo like the ones on your table.

Two months ago made the mistake of stopping to wait out a truck convoy to clear the checkpoint. Bad mistake. Food was worse than terrible.

Well, so much for that place. I did mention the bar. Pacifico is an all purpose meal.

The same owners have, so I've heard, opened another place between Maneadero and Sto. Tomas on Hwy-1, called the Pit Stop. That's all I know.

It's still there; survived the road construction and water pipe laying...and some friends went there in the past 2 months and LOVED it; including the live music; and that was on a Saturday afternoon!
