I'll be kayaking in BOLA late December and was wondering what Baja is like during New Years. Wheres the place to be?

Amelia...........The "Northerly" winds in late Dec. can be severe and strong and dangerous. Be aware........do your homework and be prepared. For
overnight trips, say like 3 days or so, you will need to pack enough food and water for 6 days. Many times the wind patterns are 3 days of hard blows
and one day calm then, another 3 of hard blows again. It can be very challanging. Have a great trip. ++C++

I spent 3 days trapped by ferocious winds on Isla Smith one year. In fact I've never had a totally windless BOLA experience? Believe me it's my
biggest concern and I prepare to the max. This is the only time of year I can get away and will trade wind for the summer heat. The water though can
get ugly I know.
The question however is regarding New years!

Amelia,
Regarding New Years, there is a fiesta in town at the Diaz compound. The evening starts off with a pinata for the children usually around 9pm.
Then there's dancing to live music...
...till midnight when everyone stops dancing to greet the New Year with hugs and handshakes between friends.
Confetti eggs fly..
Then more dancing till around 2am or so...
The winds can be brutal, and they do tend to run in days of 3, BUT then there are years when we spend New Year's day in and on the water as we did in
these photos...
Snorkling on Jan. 1st. Kayaks would have been fun too.
You'll have a good time.

I was there last January. It was cold and windy for a few days. (colder than usual most folks said)
Great place and awsome for boating I would imagine. Just be ready for wind as others have said. Taking an extra few days water and food is something
I learned is a good idea from my days as a mountaineer.
Expect the worst, hope for the best. "There are old climbers and bold climbers; but, there are no old bold climbers." I suspect the same is true
with kayakers.

Paulina, your pictures are priceless. Amelia, don't worry about the wind. Think positive.
Paulina - 10-30-2007 at 09:50 PM
Thanks Minnow. Like Amelia said, she already knows about the weather and was asking about New Years eve, not the winddddddddd.
As you said, we all have to think positive.
The more negative people talk about the weather, the nicer it will end up turning out to be.
Saludos!

Sorry folks I'm not a She. Amelia is my daughter, I couldn't register under any name I liked but it accepted Amelia, my name is Hawk.
Thank-you for the post and those pics are great. I'm trying to convince my wife to come with me and bring the kids after X-mas. The pic of the kids
and the Pinata may have won her over.
I'm hoping to stay at Archelon does anyone know if it's open between the 28th and 1st

Hawk,
It would be best to check directly with Antonio or Bety and make reservations ahead of time if possible before they book up.
