TIJUANA ? Federal agents detained three people and confiscated 1,724 pounds of marijuana shortly after a small plane landed on a hidden airstrip south
of Ensenada, authorities said.
The Cessna was detected by radar as it approached the San Quint?n Valley. Agents with Mexico's Federal Agency of Investigations arrived at the site
soon after the plane landed Friday morning and arrested three suspects: Adri?n Javier Ram?rez, Levit Serrano V?zquez and Juan Pablo Fr?as.
Authorities described the landing area as a rural zone about three hours south of Ensenada. Apparently the drugs already had been unloaded from the
plane and were found in an old Ford pickup. They were in 470 packets, covered in plastic tape.
Baja California's top federal prosecutor said Monday that he didn't know which drug trafficking group was responsible for the shipment.
The Arellano F?lix cartel is the primary drug trafficking group in Baja California, but it has been weakened by the arrests and deaths of its top
leaders. Other cartels have been muscling onto the Arellanos' turf in recent years.
"All we know is simply that an important quantity of drugs was confiscated," said Antonio Mendoza Ch?vez, who recently was named to head the Baja
California division of the Federal Attorney General's Office.
Over the past year, federal agents have confiscated drugs linked to at least two other planes that landed on secret airstrips on the outskirts of
Mexicali, but no immediate arrests were made in those cases.

bring their load up.

They also truck it to the border region, and have different ways to get it across including tunnels built under the border fence. I have a friend with
family in the Rio Grande Valley, who once identified all of his relatives involved in getting drugs across the border. Dave is right when he says that
the blame lies with the demand.

Legalize and regulate it, take it out of the hands of the criminals.
Set up treatment and educational programs throughout the USA and Mexico.
Come up with a cash crop for the farmers who harvest the coca and subsidize them.
Revise and impose stiff penalities for smugglars and dealers of heroin, cocaine and meth.
Anyways, the "best quality" grass is coming in from Canada, not Mexico.
This little bit of grass was nothing, and keep in mind it's right before elections, the streets get cleaned, a new face of paint on everything, and a
few small time busts, typical.

Several years ago a friend was hiking the costal bluffs close to the beach around Punta Blanca on the pacific and stumbled upon 2 kilos of pot wrapped
in plastic, a jacket and a machine gun with a bullet jammed in the ejection port
.....We don't know what went down...but probably not good for someone. Looks like someone was guarding the pot, something made him try to shoot the
gun, which jammed, he ran off, dropped the gun, continued running, threw off off his jacket, and ran off into the desert....
Once my friend stopped his heart from racing and determined that the stuff had been there for at least a while, based on the small fuzz of rust on the
gun...he decided the best corse of action was to bury everything, which he did.

Sounds a little suspisious on the amount, 1700 pounds of cargo would put a small aircraft over weigth unless it only carriered a couple gallons of
fuel. Sounds to me, some officiels are pumping...

Drug addiction is an illness, like alcoholism.
Perhaps before making hasty judgements, it would behoove all of us to study the reasons behind the addictive personality and the schools of thought

Seems to me that it's all about limits and where we collectively set them. Dope is illegal but we don't seem to care if a little gets trhough that
doesn't hurt anybody and that some folks can taste just a bit of it now and then for fun. Same with immigration, just enough workers seem cross over
to pick our grapes cheaply. Then there is the speed limit on the highway, who really sticks to that?
A few laws are set without wiggle room. Thou shall not kill (except in war and capital punishment). Oh, maybe there is room there too. But most laws
as they say are made to be broken, or at least evaded just un poquito.
So, the folks that make me nervious are the ones who proclaim ultimate authority in the law and expect that all "law breakers" should be severly
punished no matter how minor the crime.
Thank heavens that the way the world really works is that each criminal act for which a person is caught is considered individually and prosecuted
accordingly through a court of law. Although, I'd sure like to see some graffiti "artists" get their trigger fingers amputated! .......Not really....I
guess..
Anyhow, I gotta agree that treatment and education of users and potential users is the best way to deal with the drug issue.
I'm just glad to be typing all this blather with a good wine buzz in the privacy and safety of my own home.
Last time I tried the reefer was a few years ago at Burning Man. It happened to come around, and I hadn't been to that particular altered altered
reality place in many years so I figured what the hell. It was OK I guess, there were no ill effects, and it didn't seem as much fun as I remembered.
It kind of put me in a lonely, isolated place for some reason. To each his own I guess. I'll stick to a good cabernet.
