SAN DIEGO– Francisco Javier Arellano Félix was sentenced to life in prison Monday by federal judge Larry Burns.
Arellano Félix had pleaded guilty Sept. 17 to operating a continuing criminal enterprise and money laundering. He had agreed to a life prison sentence
as part of the plea agreement.
The plea bargain came after former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales decided not to seek the death penalty.
“I would like to ask forgiveness from all those people, on both sides of the border, who I have affected by my wrongful decisions and criminal
conduct. Please forgive me,” Arellano Félix said.
“ . . . If I had the power to change and undo the things that I have done, I would.”
