Size and type of outlet on Rotoplas tinaca

BajaDave - 11-6-2007 at 02:50 AM

Does anyone know what size the outlet is on the 500 liter sized black Rotoplas water tanks, and whether they're male/female? I wanna make sure I'm prepared with the necessary bits and pieces to hook one up to the house plumbing.

We just bought two of them. Both Female 1 1/2 thread.

Good idea about having everything pre-plumbed. I made a mistake and used the nylong float valve that came with the tank, so had to replace it with a brass fitting which works much better. The outlet came with a reducer that was of the same material but the guy at the plumbing store told me I would be better off not using that too.

Muchas gracias, BW. Since I see you're in the SF area, do you mind telling me where you purchased from and what you paid?

Sure,

As you are driving towards SF from Mexicali, about two miles before the arches there is a tank only place on your left. Cant miss it. We bought the larger 1100 liter tank, I wish I remember what I paid, we gang'd it up with a septic tank, total was under $800 is all I remember. So maybe $450? He had all types, good selection. He let me haggle just a bit on the price...

I got the white/clear tank as mine will be stored inside of my garage and out of the sun. Septic tank above ground but on a slab and inside of a brick shed. Hey, brick sh*t house!

Where are you located in the SF area? We're about 25 miles south of town.

The only PVC in my water system is from the street to the cistern. From the cistern to the water pressure holding tank & all the interior systems, it's 3/4" copper!

My Architect THINKS the price is the same whether you have 1/2" or 3/4" pipe. Builder not here at the moment to ask!

Going back into hiding!

Edit: PS From a gringa thought process, since you're charged based on volume of water used, why should it make any difference whether your intake is 1/2" or 3/4"? But I DO recall where I am, so anything IS possible!;)

Thanks again. I have a pic of my existing tank's outlet with my foot in the photo for perspective, and it appears to be about 1 1/2" coming out of the tank, but wasn't for sure at all. Hopefully the smaller tanks (compared to the size you bought) have the same size port as well.

We're 80 miles south of town, down what will hopefully be for many more years to come, a bad dirt highway. But alas, it looks like that is not to be for much longer. Oh well, at least I'll be able to make quick trips up to SF for goods, something not at all quick right now.

I also have the smaller size tank on my existing home, and it is 1 1/2" also.

Sounds like your around Punta Bufeo? If so does the name Buzz from about 10 years ago ring a bell or Billy Davis, his son that pilots there and is a Captain for San Diego Fire? They used a D-8 to launch a large boat from the beach, quite a sight. Anyone else remember this guy?

I'm north of Punta Bufeo a ways, at Miramar. The names don't ring any bells, but I have heard about the launching of the boat with the tractor somewhere along the line.
