taco stand?

ok, so, we all love certain taco stands and are scared of others, when making our ways up and down Baja.
so lets make a list...good and bad plus stories.

in Bahia de los Angeles the best tacos are from chia, her stand is next to the phone store across the street from the soccer field. anything and everything is the best! and she's so lovely too. now all i want is one of her tacos.

NEXT!?!

A fish taco from anywhere on the malecon in San Filepe! I haven't been there in 10 years but I haven't tasted anything to compare in the last 10 years!

Yes, the tacos are pretty darn good, tough parking though. Since you were there last most of the fish/shrimp taco stands have been moved to one location on the south end of the Malecon.

I like La Morena Dos.

Thanks Bajawarrior, I stand corrected on the spelling. It didn't look right when I typed it but I was too lazy and tired to look it up. And I hope the quality of the tacos hasn't changed with the location of the stands. If it has, I'll happily hang on to my memories from the past.

Just as good as ever, especially now, while its shrimp season. Prices are a reasonable $15 a kilo, down from years past at $ nearly $20 a kilo.

Best Fish Taco in San Felipe on the Malecon is Conchitas. Haven't been there yet this season, but they used to be 2 Tacos, Rice, Beans and a Salad selection for $2.50.

Dennis, don't ask me.

I just took Yho to Taco Bell for the first time. Don't ask me why. Her comment, "finally the taste of real Mexico".

I guess there is no accounting for good taste. Hmmmm. Maybe that is why she ended up with me. :lol:

Taco Bell? Everything tastes the same. I thought their food was classified as TexMex. Oh well, Yho knows what she likes. Take her there a few more times and that'll put an end to it.

Asadero Dany's in Mulege. My husband and daughter love the carne asada, and I can't get enough of the shrimp tacos. We have a hard time going anywhere else when we're down there. Lunch and dinner. It's a week with no vegetables (aside from the divine marinated onions), but it's a fine sacrifice because we have to go 51 weeks with no authentic tacos! Delicious!!

Los Amigos Taqueria in downtown Tecate. They only serve quesadillas and tacos de carne asada (tortillas de harina o maiz). It is the best carne asada I have had anywhere. Out back there is a nice covered eating area with picnic tables and fresh condiments.

It is located directly four blocks south from the northbound border crossing.

The very popular and long standing taco stand in Rosarito has opened a branch in Tijuana.

We had lunch at the one in Rosarito recently and they have a big banner announcing the grand opening of the new place.

I'l ask where it is the next time we visit and post the info.

We didn't recognize any of the employees, so I guess that the "A" team is working at the new location. Makes sense, opening up a taco stand in TJ is like, uhmm, making tortillas in San Diego and shipping them to Mexico. :tumble:

Las Brasas here in Mexicali (on the east side of Calzada Anahuac just south of Lazaro Card##as)has some good tacos al pastor and horchata water. The carne asada are just so so.

I've done extensive research here in Mexicali and have reached the conclusion that they just don't make good tacos here. The only other "good" tacos I had were from a cart at a beer fest a while back. I've tried a lot of places as it's a big town and most have just not been that good. They do have excellent bacon wrapped hot dogs here though.

I had really good tacos de carne asada at the ballpark there a couple years ago. The vendor only made carne asada and had a row of self serve condiments including frijoles enteros.

The Mexicali Aguilas of the Mexican Pacific League have a very nice ballpark (although not a good team) without a lot of extra entertainment thrown in. I think the park holds around 16,000. The season is very short, late October through the end of December.

larry, I've been to the ballpark and the tacos are indeed pretty good. Just not great/good like I am used to in the larger cities on the mainland. I think the hot dogs are pretty good there too.

I do love the stadium and the baseball here, even if the team is not that great. You really can't beat baseball when a beer is only 15 pesos and the beer guy has them waiting in a bucket on ice only 10 feet from your seat!

I agree about the beer vendors. I think the small differences with American ballparks make it a very cool experience. I particularly like the way they have a musical theme for almost every situation in the game, and for each player. Have you seen the Tecate girls out there, or was that a one time event?

Yes they are there at every game.. and the Corona girls too. I'm still waiting for a staged cat fight to break out during the 7th inning.

All around, attending a Mexican baseball game is a great time, and anyone who likes baseball should check out a game. It's very AAA/MLB(circa 1920's) feel. Just throw in some loud music , sound effects, and an old fuzzy (must be recycled or nuked from the desert sun) video screen in the outfield.
