following the lead of the good ol' usa, mexico is apparently changing some major holidays to the nearest monday instead of the calendar date. so next
monday the 19th (the third monday in november), is the holiday commemorating the revolution. all non-emergency government offices will be closed.
i'm guessing not much of anything will be open for business.
forewarned...

All the stores are open. Gas, electric, phone trucks are on the roads. Everyone here will celebrate Nov. 20th ON Nov. 20th. The
government would have had better luck legislating day into night.
you are right

how could i be sooo naive????????????
seeing all the activity i actually began to think i had mis-read the newspaper article and that this was a one-time-only "gift" to government workers,
a free day off.
guess not. people just aren't ready to "give up" their 20th november. guess we would rebel also at giving up "our" fourth of july.

Tje traffic on the free road (yes, fdt) was very light until we got to the border line - ay, yi, yi! A two hour wait, but it is what it is. Many
Tiajuanenses taking advantage of the holiday to head north to do some shopping, I guess.
What is a typical way that the holiday (Dia del Independencia?) is celebrated in Baja and around Mexico?

Dia de la Independencia is a diferent holiday, 20 de Noviembre is Dia de la Revolucion and celebrated usualy with a parade. There will be parades all
over Mexico tomorrow.
Monday Holiday

Apparently, quite a few Mexicans DID celebrate the Monday Holiday.
I picked up a copy of "La Cronica" this a.m. and it has a front-page story along with color photograph of the JAM-PACKED Border crossing on Monday as
Mexicans with the day off travelled to see relatives in the U.S. Although the pic was from the East crossing, the story said that BOTH were packed.
I sure am glad that I picked today to head North. Five minute wait.
I asked the U.S. Customs official if they had been jammed up the day before and he replied "Nah, we're NEVER jammed up, this is the I-10 of border
crossings".
Sure.
