East Mexicali border crossing

Can you get tourist cards and pay for them at the border crossing just east of Mexicali towards the airport. Is that an easy crossing place?

Yes you can. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

You want far right lane for immagration, tell guards "immagration". Park almost immediatly, almost anywhere. Building on right as you drove in is immigration. Building furthest south by itself is Bank.

Where ya headed?

We're crossing there tomorrow afternoon.

We've not entered Baja using that crossing, usually Tecate or TJ. However we have come back to the US a number of times via east Mexicali. Is southbound pretty simple to find? Not so busy as the older Mexicali crossing?

We waited 45 mins. to cross(going norh) at the east gate last Wed. a.m. about 10:30 a.m. Bumper to Bumper back up to the corner(stop signs) entering crossing street. Coming back(south) the same way on Thursday, they totally ignored us, only two guards at the gates.

The main Mexicali crossing isn't too bad going south. Immediately after crossing the border, park on the right. Then walk across to the left of the traffic lanes to get your tourist card, then back across to where you parked for the bank.

I have heard that the east crossing is easier, but the main crossing really isnt a problem--just make sure you don't go past the migracion parking area. It is extremely difficult to park on the street or even find a paying parking lot in that area.

Seems we never quite get it right crossing here. Almost always we are heading south through San Felipe and we used to know the easiest route through the town of Mexicali. But we've used that port of entry so seldom lately that we'd likely get lost as though we've lost all our memory cells. So, I was thinking the east port of entry might be an easier to find the route south toward San Felipe.....

I believe I'd be able to get lost either way if I try hard enough.

From Highway 8 about 7 miles east of El Centro, take Highway 7 south all the way (cross Hwy. 98) to the border. Follow the "Cars" signs to the crossing.

Once your in, follow the overhead signs to San Felipe.

I like the crossing for going to San Felipe. But aren't you going Pacific side? The drive however from Mexicali to Tecate is gorgeous. It's a toll road, but not too much, $12 for passenger, half again for towing roughly. Then Tecate to Fox studios through Otay?

Or are you going through Gonzaga and then down?

We're heading out tomorrow afternoon to our home below San Felipe.

Packing right now, well, suppose to be.

We are about 25 miles south of San Felipe.
Santa Maria is our turnoff from the highway.

6 miles south of Rancho Percebu (large sign, good landmark) and we are the next campo south.

Turn toward beach, 1/2 mile long road, you are very near the water at this point. Turn left at white corral fence, we're 4th house #24. Large two story home on second (road) row. Rear deck, white SuperDuty with plates SAN FLPA.
