Tiburones en el Malecon de La Paz

fdt - 11-19-2007 at 11:21 AM

:O There were sharks in the shallows on the malecon, in front of the Hotel Perla. Thats crazy. Please note that on my computer this video had no sound. When other videos did, so I assume it is a silent video.

Curious to know whats going on there?????????

bajajudy - 11-19-2007 at 11:53 AM

Those sharks must be really hungry to eat anything that comes out of that bay:barf:

Seriously, well, sorta....I, too, wonder why they are there.

Cervisin - 11-19-2007 at 12:11 PM

Maybe there was areal estate guy swimming and they wanted to visit their buddy.....:lol::lol:

fdt - 11-19-2007 at 12:18 PM

I was thinking more like maybe El Chino and his gang.

Cervisin - 11-19-2007 at 12:24 PM

...... is there a difference???? roflmao :spingrin::lol:

gnukid - 11-19-2007 at 12:25 PM

funny thing chino lives a few hundred yards away and has never even gone that far down the malecon. There are also 5 tibornes ballenas out there eating, and a hundred orcas outside. I hope to see some today in the afternoon.

Don't kid yourself about the health of the water it is highly active with huge tides and lots of life struggling to survive.

Sallysouth - 11-19-2007 at 07:55 PM

A hundred Orcas? Those sharks had the tail of a Thresher, but I may be mistaken..gnukid, take your camera and take pics of "a hundred Orca".hmmmmm.....:wow::?:

I'm surprised I didn't see any throw nets come out of the crowd. They looked like Thresher tails to me too.

bancoduo - 11-19-2007 at 08:35 PM

They are seeking refuge from the JAP fishing boats that the Mexican politicos allow in to exploit the natural resources. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ big BITE.

Appears to be some sort of mating behavior to me. There isn't that fast darting movement of a feeding frenzy.

We get leopard sharks here in feb-march at one of our local beaches that behave that way within feet of the shoreline. In fact I would hook them on a 12 wt flyrod. A real blast. They stay for about 3 weeks doing their thing and are gone until the following year.

I know those tails look real long but they may not be threshers. I'm sure sharksbaja could ID them in a flash.

Cervisin - 11-20-2007 at 10:25 AM

I think you right Skipjack Joe, behavior indicates mating, only missing rolling and biting / holding on to dorsal fins. First I thought also they are Tresher Sharks but my guess would be more Dusky Sharks since tail fin not long enough for Tresher.

I concur tho they look much like the Pelagic Thresher.

twogringos - 12-2-2007 at 06:43 PM

These have been identified by an expert at UABCS as Dusky Sharks. See: http://www.oem.com.mx/elsudcaliforniano/notas/n510766.htm
