Last trip down we caught several 3'-5' hammer heads and released all. I was told that they are delicious, any thoughts, facts.

Good for you for releasing them. They may taste good, but it's better to forego eating them. Of the all the species of sharks in the Sea of Cortez,
eight are in danger of extinction, including the hammerhead as a result of fishing (including by catch) and finning. Some studies show hammerhead
populations declining between 1986-2000 by 89%.

Forgive my ignorance, but just how do you get the hook out of that snuggly creature before releasing it? I will be forever scarred by the memory of
fishing with my dad as a youngster, having caught a snapping turtle...then to my horror he proceeded to saw the turtle's head off with his pocket
knife, which I thought he was going to use to help get the hook out. I was only 8 and didn't understand, and have never fished since.

Verrrry long sturdy pliers,or if that doesn't work cut the line and leave the hook in. I use circle hooks and they tend to lodge in the corner of the
mouth which makes it a little easier.
