I doubt you could use one of these to track your stolen truck. My guess is that:
1. The database is probably only accessible to a search and rescue network. You couldn't track your vehicle.
2. There are probably contractual limitations as to searching for people.

Nope. They give you a passcode, and you can give it to anyone you want and they can track you wherever you are.
Every parent should put one of these buggers on their kids car.

There is no database involved - the device sends tracking information in the form of an email to an address of your choice at a pre-determined
interval. The position info is also sent to a website with a Google Maps interface which you can access at any time.

Here is the service agreement - I see no such limitations.
The way I understand it is that you pay an additional $50 to get the tracking service. Otherwise you are limited to distress 9-1-1. (And no one would
want to use this to track auto theft, right?)
This is way cool, though. Much cheaper and more functional than anything out there. I was thinking of getting a new EPIRB. Not now.
Only limitations would be because you would need to hide the unit is rigging some sort of an external antenna. And then activation before the thieves
drove off.

There are more functional options out there (IONEarth.com), but WAYYYY more expensive (thousands of dollars per year just for the tracking service).
I agree - to the point, that I had a business plan to offer a very similar service. These guys have the advantage of being owned by
GlobalStar, http://www.stockhouse.com/news/news.asp?newsid=6189011&t... so they can do stuff that independents just can't - as long as GS stays in
business.

You have to activate the tracking manually. Can't be done remotely. Tracking info is then sent every 10 minutes for 24 hours.
