Air rifles allowed in Baja?

805gregg - 11-21-2007 at 07:24 PM

I was wondering if you could bring an air rifle to baja, anyone know?

bajaguy - 11-21-2007 at 07:28 PM

They sell em in Baja

backninedan - 11-21-2007 at 08:09 PM

They have them at the Saturday market here in Loreto for 500 pesos. Blaze sporting goods has half a dozen different types ranging from 600 to over 2000 pesos.

There is one for sale at Big Five a Beeman with 2 barrels .177 and 22 caliber with a scope for $169. This has 930 fps with one pump.

How many people know that Beeman was a marine biologist?

Tis true. A full fledged professor at SFSU before he chucked it all and pursued his life-long hobby. An expert in nudibranchs he actually befriended Japan's emperor (who was also a marine biologist) and later married his Japanese interpreter. He was my major advisor in the early 70's.

Could shoot mice with one.:D

ELINVESTIG8R - 11-26-2007 at 09:28 PM

Just the thing to take to Mexico to give the Chota another excuse for rousting you and holding you up for hours or days. Don't do it is my recommendation. And yes you might shoot your eye out too.

805gregg - 11-26-2007 at 09:59 PM

I got one, watch out if you shoot a raton it may just go through your wall. One powerfull rifle, I went out of town for my annervisery, and was going to leave it with my son (17), while I was gone. He's had an air rifle since he was 12. One shot by me and, it went into my gun safe while I was gone. I just wonder how these cowards would respond if you shot back with legal and lethal force. Fight back.

DENNIS - 11-27-2007 at 07:04 AM

Cabelas sells one that claims 1600 fps. Kinda pricey, around $500 but, it will put a major hurt on whoever/whatever stands in front of it.

ELINVESTIG8R - 11-27-2007 at 02:33 PM

Breathe in, Breathe out, stop, aim, relax and squeeze the trigger with the middle of the first joint of your trigger finger. Don't jerk the trigger. Squeeeeeeeze it. Yummy, Pelican stew. The taste is somewhat gamey though. Just cook it over the coals of your fire.

Hey guys...just had a thought. I keep a canister of bear spray in our motor home. We live in BC Canada and walk the dog alot in the bush when out camping. I am wondering if I should keep it or remove it before heading across the two borders.

Part of me wants to ditch it, I had a bad experience with it once. We had just set up camp and I was dinging out the camper. I have a string around this canister (to strap around my shoulder) and when I grabbed it the thing went off like a garden hose. Let me tell ya, that stuff works.

Barb

Bring it

bajaguy - 11-28-2007 at 08:00 AM

I would also get a hand held flare launcher, flares and some bear bangers. Put them in with your first aid kit when you cross into the US, take them out when you cross into Mexico.

Oddly enough, I just registered to ask this same question. Is there a permit, or license required to bring an air rifle into the country? And if so, does anyone have the informtion of how to obtain it?

Thanks ...
