Kinda scary! That was the last thing I saw before I closed my eyes and got married (in the '60s). Fortunately I eventually crawled out of it.;)

Skipjack--that photo reminds me of how chilly the Bay Area can get. My brother lives in Pacifica and I'm usually freezing my tail off when visiting...lived in Burlinghame for six months many years ago and I don't think I ever took my jacket off! Still, I'll take a Bay Area winter over a Texas summer...

This web was located in a rose garden. You can see a new rose bud in the upper left hand corner. I would estimate the size of this web to be 18 inches in diameter.

Wow! I'm thinking an 18 inch web must be created by a very interesting spider! Here in the desert we have lots of spiders (I have a lot of very healthy black widows in my yard) but I've never seen a web like that. The only time I've seen something comparable was in Hawaii, Poipu, Kauai, and the spiders were yellow, striped, jumping monsters (almost dinner plate size!). I'd really be interested if you can capture a photo of the spider that spun that web and anything he catches with it. I'm not a spider fan but I do respect any creature that can create something as complicated as that beautiful web..............

I looked for the spider... but I think it was hiding because it was just so damp. This photo was from 2004 so I think the spider that spun that web is long gone.. :(

It is damp out this morning here in San Diego. This photo reminds me of the same conditions when I took this shot.
