Field Guide for Baja Plants.

After all this rain maybe the desert will bloom. Have been using a field guide called "Baja California Plant Field Guide", by Norman C. Roberts. If you're interested in learning to ID the plants it's a good source: of information.:D:D

Love that book! Wish though, that there was a book more thorough for us botanist types that wasn't as complicated as Wiggins' 'Flora of Baja', which requires bringing half of a lab with you to key plants out. Hmmm...

We ran into Norman Roberts in Valle Chico a number of years ago--nice guy.

Norm is supposed to be reprinting with additions and better photos but we do not have a release date yet.
We still have a few of the original available here in San Jose but not from our US website.

Love that field guide too - I sleep with it under my pillow! Can't wait for the new revised guide to be published!

Everyone should carry Wiggins - it is so heavy it keeps your truck from rolling.:lol::lol:

Earlier this year we met a woman, a botanist, who was collecting samples and information because she is writing a new book about plants----if I remember, she is focusing on Baja Sur.

She said her book would be more complete than the Robert's guide---was very interesting having her describe the tiny plants along the highway that we didn't even think were plants.

We gave her our e-mail and hope she kept it so she can send us a notice when she publishes the book.

I met Norm Roberts with some friends having dinner up at Meling Ranch in 1999 - a charming guy.

Was most impressed by his SportTrek (?) custom van although we fell out over whether a winch was needed for Baja travel - he had travelled here for 30 years and had never needed one - I had travelled here for 3 and would still be stuck in various salt bogs without one . . .
