Baja Cactus,
That is interesting because we have always been treated just like it was a full service station. The attendant fills the tank, takes the money and
brings us change.
If they wash the windshield, we tip them---had not idea it was supposed to be self-service. Are the attendants paid and should they be tipped for
pumping gas.

I never knew that this was a self service Pemex... how would one know? However, I have always tipped the "filler" and the "window washer" there.

Service...

Hi,
Every Gas Station is run in different ways... in fact the Gas Station owner has the option to operate it in any way they believe is best for them.
At BajaCactus we decided to organize our operations as a "Self Service" Gas Station... we even tried to install some signs to inform our customers,
however all the signs posted at Pemex Gas Stations are regulated by Pemex, and they did not authorized them.
Nevertheless, we also decided to hire attendants to offer a better service to our customers... all of our attendants have a full salary, whatever they
get from tips is a plus for them.
Their primary function is to help our customers should they require any assistance (and to help with the flow of traffic during peak times), secondly
to keep our facilities (including restrooms) always clean and ready... and finally they are also there to help in any other activities that concern
the proper functionality of the Gas Station (like help in receiving our shipments of fuel).
However, in practice, they are always in the look for that "tip", that is why they tend to leave the restrooms and any other activities for last, even
though those are part of their responsibilities (for which they get paid)... so we had to hire another employee to be in charge only for the
restrooms.
One of our main goals at BajaCactus is to do our best effort to offer our customers the best service possible... just keep in mind that we are still a
work in progress, and with all your help, support and advice we have been able to have a wonderful feedback, which in time will allow us to keep
tuning our service/facilities in order to achieve a better result.
Thank you all for your help and friendship.

Zeferino...

Hi,
Forgot to mention... the name of that "mute guy" some of you are recalling, which is also deaf, is Zeferino, they usually call him "Zefe"...
His story is very sad... he is the only son of a family... and for some reason I do not know, he has been in charge of supporting his mother for as
long as I can remember (I do not know what happen to his Dad).
For a very long time we tried to help allowing him to be at the Gas Station "attending" our customers... even though we knew he was very pushy and
annoying at times, we understood his situation and tried to cope with it... we were the only way for him to help ans support his family.
However, a few years back, Pemex sent us a memo "requesting" us to stop allowing him to be at the Gas Station during business hours (we open 24
hrs)... so we had to act on it... we offer his mom a job for "Zefe" as a gardener or something, but she did not understood it was not our choice to
impede "Zefe" access to the Gas Station and she was very rude and offensive to us... so we were unable to offer any further help.
Sometimes life is hard.
