hurricaine force winds heading to baja wednesday?

shari - 12-4-2007 at 08:28 AM

Does anyone have anymore info on this system approaching us bearing strong winds....we don't want to be caught unawares this time around...I can't seem to find any good reports.

Bajaboy - 12-4-2007 at 08:34 AM

The best I can find is that winds will pick up to 25 km/h on Friday with winds about 20km/h on Sat and Sun. Chance of rain on Friday night and Sunday night.

Shari,

I don't know what kind of wind you will get, but you will getBIG swell.
I would inform all of your lobster fishing buddies to move the traps out deeeeeep for a few days. The marine forcast around here is truely frightening. 25 foot plus seas Tues. evening through thursday. Its starting to show this morning on the beach out front. not that big yet (maybe 8 feet or so) but it's coming. Due west 270.Some of the bouys we watch up north were in the mid to upper 30 foot range yesterday.

They are also talking about 2-4 inches of rain on friday.

Good Luck! The blow hole should be going nuts!

Bouyweather says waves picking up starting Wednesday am and increasing to 10'-13' by midnight Wednesday. Wind under 10 knots until then.

Keep us informed----hope we get lucky again. Oh, is the water back on yet?

Don't want any large swell to cause any problems for anyone, but sure wish we were there to see it.

I just read that a system moving SW will bring hurricaine force winds to baja by wednesday??? but couldn't find it anywhere else...saw the swell advisory...and YUP I'll let the fishermen know to move the traps...good... all the bird doo doo on the rocks will get washed off and my windows will be salt sprayed once again. It's so awesome when the swells break over the rocks out front! I'll take some photos.

This site shows marine forecast for San Carlos and Abrejos through Friday-- winds up to 22 but nothing in the forcast for hurricane winds.

Also check
www.Wunderground.com

they have a marine forecast for specific regions and it comports with the sailflow forecast for your area.

There may be some confusion as a huge hurricane force storm just came ashore in Washington State- but it's not heading south it's going east across the Rockies and onto the plains.

Good luck-- Norm

Bahia Asuncion faces the south, so the big waves may be blocked for them... if they are coming from the north or northwest.

supposed to ARR fri for 2 nites and home sun.
looks really doubtful if mulege and lopez get drenched.
plus big rain, low ceilings and icing forecast AZ sat sun.
if Serenidad RW gets really wet no one can get out sun. bad picture and we have dozens of Xmas gifts/back packs for the local chilldren we throw an annual party for.
this is not good.

dont push the weather....i know you know this, but my flight instructor bought it pushing the ceiling and packed it in north of brown field 10 yrs ago....same time of year.

I'm an ex-cruiser living full time on the Mainland just north of Manzanillo and I do a little weather for cruising boats. It is only winds. I don't discuss waves or precipitation.

It was an awesome hot sunny, calm day here today...one of those perfect baja days...our place faces nearly due west so this swell will come straight up the blowhole and into jdtrotters beach as well where all the high school kids with headaches and stomach aches (to get out of school) will be pumpin and practising for the christmas surf contest Dec.22-23. I LOVE this huge winter swells!

Tomas Tierra - 12-4-2007 at 09:45 PM

Pt Conception bouy just hit 24 ft at 19 seconds, from 275 degrees. She's on the way Shari!

Dang, hate to miss that----could blackmail a few kids with photos.:lol:

It used to be called Pig Beach, but since it is right in front of our house, we think it should be renamed Playa de jdtrotter.:lol:

Not a breath of air here....calm as can be.

You guys are mixing things up. There is no storm down there. There was a big storm hundreds of miles off and it is sending a big swell down. It will be 15' with a super long period.

In SoCal it is mid 70's and bright sunshine.

Minnow - 12-5-2007 at 12:00 PM

All the big wave guys are out at Todos Santos island today. Conditions look to be epic dude.

capitolkat - 12-5-2007 at 12:40 PM

Windy and lots of snow-- here in DC today-- my mind is on the beach but my eyes are on the drifts.

Natalie Ann - 12-5-2007 at 12:49 PM

Window for The Maveriks annual surf competition opens Friday just south of here... expecting 40 foot waves. World's best surfers on heading this way now. Promises to be very exciting!:o:spingrin::tumble::spingrin:

So maybe we wont get those super huge waves here? Cause we were thinking a 20' wave would probably wipe out our house...the cliff is about 15' high...hmmm...food for thought...some are saying 12' and winds up to 22 knots...today the swell is huge..passing over the rocks in front and huge breakers in the channel between the island and the point here...sounds like a hurricaine every time a huge wave hits the blowhole! If this is just the beginning, it's gonna get real interesting here later tonight at high tide...what's it like in Ensenada? Boy, Sta.Rosalillita breakwater is gonna take a poo kicking! I'll post pics of this afternoons high tide.

South wind just picked up at 2PM on Punta Banda pensinsula. Clear skies, but fog has been lurking a few miles off shore most of day. Did see several surfers just below Lomas Del Mar on my drive back up my hill. The water has to be chilly!

bajabound2005 - 12-5-2007 at 04:25 PM

Yup, the surfers are out in full force today; plus there was no school today here. Excellent timing!

Ernies left goin off!! How cool..

I thought that place was called ernies until i surfed it with some ensenada locals that said they caal it "Are nize" because the lefts are nize.....

Double over head plus at Rincon today, AHHHHHH! Time for a Rum drink!

Diver - 12-5-2007 at 07:35 PM

From Buoyweather;
Looks like 11 to 14 foot swell peaking tonight and then calming quickly in Asuncion.
What size wave does that make at the blowhole ??
.

shari - 12-5-2007 at 07:37 PM

There is an enormous swell here right now but that's good to know this is about as bad as it'll get...how about rain & winds? We caulked windows and cracks today. The blowhole sounds like an earthquake though...

debindesert - 12-5-2007 at 08:37 PM

talk in the shop today from our two surfers about mavericks. when i showed them the baja nomad board, the conversation quickly turned to "warmer waters".

either way, we won't expect them to show up for work next week.
