La Paz Malecon:No dogs

Jack Swords - 12-6-2007 at 12:56 PM

New signs on the malecon this year.

bajaretreat - 12-6-2007 at 01:01 PM

Don't those people know that dogs can't read???

Oh well...

Of course they know that dogs can't read, that's why they have the picture!

This reminds of the sign on the window in my local postoffice that says no dogs except seeing eye dogs...now, who can read that???? It's actually ignored anyway.

Jack, get out of town and find some lost Jesuit ruins!!!:spingrin:

Leo - 12-6-2007 at 02:37 PM

Yeh, it's too bad about La Paz. Not one dog-friendly hotel in the city and now this on the malecon.

La Paz becoming So Cal

Here's a picture from 2005. The good ole days when you could walk your dog on the Malecon.

The continuing Americanization of Baja.

Sad, really...........

DrTom - 12-6-2007 at 04:22 PM

invariably this is because of dog poop not being picked up.

Packoderm - 12-6-2007 at 04:47 PM

I would rather see a few of these rather than that sign.

DrTom - 12-6-2007 at 05:18 PM

you know, theres a popular walk right in front of my house. And i see people every day, look around while their dogs are defecating, to see if any one sees them......if they might be seen they pick it up, if they dont think anyone sees, they scurry off, leaving a big steaming pile behind them. So i, stick my head out the back upstairs porch and ask if they need a plastic bag to go back and pick it up! Amusing the responses.....

I have a little Lhasa Apso who only leaves "little" piles .:(:(

Always try to have him use the "Loreto Bay" beach.

Barry A. - 12-6-2007 at 05:33 PM

My sister lives on Bayside Walk in South Mission Beach----her front yard is the beach---------she often tells me that it seems that many of the folks that live in the non-beachfront homes in South Mission think nothing of BRINGING their dogs to the beach to do their duty, with nary a thought of the folks that come to the beach to lie there, enjoying the sum after they leave.

To me, these folks are a bit "sick"--------what can they be thinking? THE PROBLEM IS THE IRRESPONSIBILITY OF "DOG OWNERS" THAT CAUSES THESE SIGNS TO APPEAR.

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?

This topic was posted here several months ago. The irony is that it is probably the stray dogs that are doing the poop and run. Yes, some people are irresponsible and make it difficult for the rest of us dog owners who are responsible, but on the malecon I think most people will pick up after the dog because they are so conspicuous.

The least they could have done is to put up the posts with plastic bags and a container, like Packoderm showed.

There are enough reasons to not come to Baja and spend our money. For sure, La Paz is a city I will not visit again. It is sad because I and my dog Paco loved that malecon.:(

Tony, Tony, Tony-------------

It is the responsibility of the DOG OWNERS, not the city, to provide whatever is needed to "take care" of their dogs needs---------why is this so hard to comprehend??? I cannot believe that folks actually think that the CITY should spend Taxpayer money to provide services to the few irresponsible folks that let their dogs run wild, or contaminate the streets and lawns.

Good grief!!!!!!

No dogs?

BMG - 12-6-2007 at 07:21 PM

Hmmmm....no people!

Haven't really noticed any fewer leashed dogs on the malecon and there are usually several unleashed ones running around. Not even sure how many signs are posted, but not many and doesn't seem to be any effort at enforcement.

Barry, "true" means I agree with you. (about irresponsible dog owners). Regarding the City providing.....taxes are supposed to go for amenities that make people's lives better. We shouldn't all be punished for the transgressions of the few.

Hmmmmmm. Where did everybody go? Nice photos, by the way.

Barry A. - 12-6-2007 at 09:03 PM

Sorry Tony, we crossed posted before I saw your post agreeing with my point on irresponsible dog owners.

But, I still don't understand why you think that the City should provide items/amenities for the very few folks that forget to bring doggy litter bags (or don't really care, and therefore won't use the bags anyway)---------maybe it has to do with how each of us (you and I?) approaches situations and issues differently. People with disabilities is one thing----able bodied folks that are simply careless (or worse) are another------taxes spent for the former make sense, for the latter I don't think so.

Well, I guess I am used to them in California. I appreciate them and I usually take a bag to back up one I have in my pocket. They are still ignored by some, but not all. I would rather La Paz would try them or some civic organization sponsor them before they ban the dogs.

Question for Bajadogs... :-)
