Charity without Taxation

Here in Esteban Cantu, in BCN, we recently had severe mudslides that left many people homeless. The outpouring of generosity has been astonishing.

A local church group is trying to help by donating 85 kitchens that have been removed from a development under renovation in the US. These include cabinetry and appliances, all in excellent condition.

Here's the rub: it appears that, if these kitchens are"imported," duites will be levied. Has anyone had experience or have any ideas as to obtaining an exception to this frankly stupid requirement?

Many of the kitchens are already on trucks, waiting to head south. Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe FDT can help or has connections???

Used stuff is free of dutie?

Thanks, Tom and LT. Two good ideas that I'll definitely follow up on.

And I don't think "used" is necessarily duty-free. You want to bring 85 kitchens in to Mexico; they'll be all over it as for re-sale...all of our household goods moving here were used; we still had to pay duty.
