Now that is funny. 600 lbs of lobster won't sink the industry but it's interesting to note that while I was in Mulege I had the smallest SOC bugs I've ever seen. They looked more like green crawdads. What is the size restriction on that species?
This was at one of the well known restaurants.

Actually Roger I,ve taken many that size and many larger. They are ALL delicious tho some think the smaller the tastier. I tend to think the flavor has more to do with diet than with size but........ I was wrong one time. :lol:

On a serious note, good work by Conapesca. I hope they keep it up. The retail level is perhaps the easist spot to intercept illegal catches....It just started raining here...

Is it ok if I tell a lobster story here? It's still about lobster, so not hijacking the thread too much....

Here goes.

My ex husband used to send me into town to buy beer while he waited back at camp. This one particular trip into town I ran into a local friend who wanted to know if I wanted to buy a lobster.

Just one lobster?

Yes, this lobster will be all you need.

It was huge. I put it into the back of the truck, then went in to buy the beer. I put the beer in the cooler and headed back down the 3 mile dirt road to our trailers. The drive was slow and I kept hearing a thrashing noise going on in the back. The lobster was wrestling with the shovel I kept back there so I pulled over to see what I could do.

I took the case of beer out of the cooler and attempted to put the lobster in to keep it safe. It barely fit. I had to almost fold it in half, shove it in the cooler and shut the lid fast. This only lasted about a half mile down the road before the lobster popped the lid open and got out of the cooler.

I pulled over, climbed in the back and put the lobster back in the cooler and used the shovel as a bar across the top of the cooler lid, wedging it under the edges of the side of the truck bed to keep the lobster from escaping again.

When I got back to camp I parked the truck, grabbed a cold beer out of the case (which I put on the floor of the back seat) and walked over to where he was sitting.

As I sat down with my beer he said, "Where's my beer woman?"

I said, "It's in the cooler in the back of the truck."

It was so hard to not laugh as he stood up and went to fetch his own beer. I watched as he opened the back of the truck, lifted the lid on the cooler to grab a cold one and was met by a giant angry snapping lobster.

It was the funniest thing I ever saw. The lobster started snapping and popped out of the cooler again, my ex jumped backwards, almost falling over and I was laughing so hard that I probably had to go change my bikini bottoms.

I loved that lobster.

Excellent anecdote woman...best laugh I had all day! NOw, back to the thread...I am so glad this happened...the confiscation of lobster that is not the wetting of bikini bottoms....in our area it is STRICTLY forbidden to take/sell undersize lobster and very well enforced which is WHY we still have a healthy large lobster population unlike most parts of baja. BRAVO...and I say...you should send back to the kitchen any lobster that is not legal size AND report the restaurant to Profepa...so there.

probably "little lobsters" is more appropriate today. And never call them midget lobsters, that's way verbotin today.
