The garbage collectors rang the doorbell today asking for a Christmas tip. What is the going rate nowadays? We gave them M$50 and they seemed very
happy with that.

Seems appropriate! They don't earn very much and it is probably the same thing you might do up north.Skeet/Loreto - 12-17-2007 at 05:05 PM
BMG: Well done!
Many years ago in the States I would get a good bottle of Whiskey and about a week before Christmas take it to the Garbage Collectors. Same in Loreto.
Just think, how you would feel if you had to pick up Grabage everyday of the year, Other peoples Garbage, Stinks doesn't it?
Good Job BMG

20-100 pesos plus a bottle of alcohol or some beer... remember garbage is picked up at no charge to you in mexico twice a week in my neighborhood. I
had a small party for them when they rang the bell and we really enjoyed it. They are great people, maybe the best in the world.Paulina - 12-17-2007 at 05:25 PM
This topic came up just at the right moment. I have a batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven as I type. We are giving each of our garbage
collectors a six pack of Budweiser and a Christmas plate full of Chocolate Chip cookies. The same goes for our recycle bin guys. Our postal carrier is
getting a bottle of wine with her cookies.
It's nice to spread the spirit of the holidays.

When tipping garbage men, don't you have to wait until they are asleep?CaboRon - 12-18-2007 at 10:07 AM

when I am in towns, etc in Mexico, that actually have garbage collectors, the standard Christmas tip has always been the six pack of beer, plus
homemade cookies or such. you don't have to wait for them to come to the door, just watch for them. on the mainland, when the truck rang a bell and
everyone ran out with their garbage, anytime around Christmas worked fine.Woooosh - 12-18-2007 at 12:54 PM
My garbage collectors are awesome. They even dump the two additional 50 gallon drums I put on the sidewalk next to the seawall. Every Sat I give them
50 pesos and three ice cold cokes. For christmas I give them each $20 US. I know it's a lot, but the service I get every week is worth it. They even
honk and wait for me should I oversleep.
BTW< I used to give them three beers instead of the three cokes- but I guess others were doing the same thing- and the guys smashed up the garabge
truck driving drunk (we went without trash collection for a month after that). So it's back to Coke.
