We?re back. We?re tired. We miss the place already!
Road conditions: fine
Water temperature: cold
Weather: mild wind and perfectly warm
Fuel: plenty!
Here?s a load down for traveling to Gonzaga Bay (approximately 100 miles south of San Felipe) driving a Land Rover. Others here will disagree with my
?Newbie?viewpoints, so do your travel homework before you leave. It will make your trip extremely more pleasant! Do go Baja. Any car make this trip.
Mexicali boarder crossing on March 21 was a 10 minute wait, and very pleasant. Don?t worry about how to get to San Felipe from the boarder gate, the
direction signs are VERY clear! Gas, Smart and Finale, Costco are a mile down the highway.
San Felipe is not busy. Water is cold (all down to Bahia de Gonzaga). Camps in SF can be a joke! We stayed at Pete?s Camp (5 minutes before the SF
town). It?s clean, organized and LOUD!!! Don?t stay here if you are into peaceful campsites. Go down to Campo San Diego (or nearby camps) if you are
doing primitive camping or quite camping. Eat at Tony?s on the beachfront. Parking is right in front of the restaurant is reserved for Tony?s clients!
Two can eat great on 10 bucks. Get all your travel needs in SF. And then off to Puertecitos
Right outside of SF there is a checkpoint, hosted by the Mexican Feds. Easy, fast, and friendly! Give these two poor souls out there, a cold drink
(after your inspection!). 15 minutes further, the paved road becomes potted. The WORST road I ever been on! This goes on for an hour?s worth of
driving at 10 miles per hour. But keep going! Get to Puertecitos, and you?ll find a DUMP for a town. NO gas there. Never will be gas. Don?t believe
anything else! You will have plenty of fuel to make it to Gonzaga Bay if you filled up in SF. This town was taken over by the daughter of the
landlord. She jacked up all the leases, most folks moved out, and she is left with a town that is filled up with ruins! I was very disappointed with
this area. Oh?the hot springs there?just pay her at the gate to see it! Fly infested restaurant that serves dust, no nothing. KEEP GOING past this
hellhole.
There?s more to come, and it gets great! Will write more out our trip, tonight.

Hey, Thanks for the report. Sorry to hear that Puertecitos has gone to hell. It was never much to look at but good for a beer and dinner.

I was sooooo disappointed with this area. It really was suppose to great, according to all the books I read. This Hellhole is literally spewed with
abundants of junk, ruined homes, no services to speak of. It?s a dirty, dusty, cow donk infested joint. To the few folks that still live there, sorry
about the bad words I have. Maybe you get lucky with a UFO abduction!
