Hello,I am new at this boardand looking for some advice.My wife and Dog and I are heading south this coming friday.We are thinking of going in to Loreto or Mulege to get setup at an RV park,then take our Jeep and go explore from there.Any suggestions on where to stay and what to do? I don't know if they have a web site... but very nice little spot with an excellent little breakfast / lunch cafe on site.

Thank you for the recomendtions,we will look in to both of them.Our motorhome is 38 feet long and we will be pulling a 20 foot trailer with the Jeep on it, will these rv parks accomidate rv,s of this size? How is the weather down there now, it is raining here. Also how is the fishing? Any recomendations on who to go out fishing with? Can I buy a fishing license down there? Again thanks for the information. this may be a wide open Question but does any body need any thing from the states?

The Rivera del Mar will be quite full at this time of year. I would call Yolanda to see if she has space. She speaks English very well. You may have to rent two spaces to accomodate your rig (s). The phone number is 01152-613-135-0718 from the US. They are great folks, have excellent security and a very good restaurant. Winter rate is $18.00 US per night, I believe.

I have stayed there on and off in my 26 foot trailer while building in Loreto this past year. When the park is not crowded, you would fit, but at this time of year, it is questionable.

The Tripui, south of town at Puerto Escondido has much more space for a long rig such as yours. They are a bit pricey, but also have excellent security and facilities.

Que les vaya bien. You'll love Loreto at this time of year. :yes:

Weather: high 74 low 56, today. Perfect.
Fishing: Some Yellowtail action, ask at town Marina.

Loretana, thanks for assisting these folks. I didn't have the current specs on prices, etc. Nice folks and nice spot, however. They seem to be very well liked by most who've stayed there.

Steve - yes, your rig is no problem for serenidad - pull in to the main lot, disconnect the trailer then back the RV bus into a spot and hook up. your trailer can be parked along side. they aren't pull thru spaces, very few to none of those around mulege.

if my tunes are too loud don't worry we have quiet time in the park, it starts at about 1:00 am............ ;^) about when the last wine bottle empties.......

Take the trip up the hill to the misson at San Javier. In 1998 I took this trip and continued over the ridge and down the western slope into Santo Domingo, south to Hiway 1 and back to Loreto. Then the road west of San Javier was easy dirt; I have no clue what this road is like now.

This is great thanks again for all the information. Santiago,this side trip to the mission at San Javir sounds like something we would like to do.Do you have any other directions,or is there a map that would give me the directions?My jeep is not a stock jeep and is very capable of getting through the roughest roads ( or no road at all ). Mision San Javier

This is a cool side trip, the essence of "Old Mexico" Baja....
The 30 mile road is paved for the first five kilometers and then you will have an easy ride in your Jeep on to the Mision.

There is a small restaurant near the Mision that has decent food, be sure to ask the Duena for some of her goat cheese. :yes:

It is very beautiful up there at this time of year. Stop to see the petroglyphs on the way up.

The road to the Mision breaks off the main highway just south of town. You can also stop at Del Borracho for a good meal, they are on the San Javier road about a stones throw from the main highway.

Do I sound like I'm homesick for Loreto???? :dudette:

First stop on the road to SJ mission is Del Borachos on the right- unbelievable view and great food at a great price - Mike/owner a good Canadian guy, you'll think you are in an Aspen resort- he imported all the wood to build this place..........and get your fishing license by mail in advance to save much time and effort...call 619-233-4324 CONAPESCA office in San Diego and they will give you the details...only M-F 8am-2pm PDT - must use cashiers check or money order in exact amount....www.bajabound.com/before/permits/fishing.asp :cool:

The trip to the mission sounds like a good one,we will have to do that one.Do I need a fishing license to fish from the beach? Someone told me I only need a license if I go on a boat.Are there any whales in Mulege or Loreto? Or are they just in Scammons Lagoon? We plan on stopping a few days in Guero Negro to check out the whales if they are in the bay. Well we are taking off tomorrow late afternoon, hope to see some of you down there. Thanks for the info,Steve :tumble:

SAN JAVIER, the second mission of the chain, founded in 1699, moved to this site (from Rancho Viejo) in 1720... construction began on the stone church in 1744 and was completed in 1758.. The best preserved mission in Baja!

No fishing license needed if fishing from the beach, only from a boat. Other types of whales (including the blue) are in the gulf... some grays do wonder in.
