Rosarito Beach shootings

marla - 12-21-2007 at 12:29 PM

Can anyone tell me urgently if there are still soldiers around the RB police station today?

bajabound2005 - 12-21-2007 at 02:48 PM

That's is what is reported in the newspapers.

motoged - 12-21-2007 at 03:03 PM

Yep....

:o:o :O:O :no::no:

Hook - 12-21-2007 at 03:22 PM

Again, the Mexican response is always on the defensive.

They should do a night time, door-to-door weapons search in the Colonia followed by the neighborhoods in the hills of La Mision.

It's 4:30 Friday I just returned from Rosarito

Keri - 12-21-2007 at 05:47 PM

Yep, They are everywhere with lots of trucks and Machine guns. Scary. I wanted to go into a store where they were parked but I thought better of it and got out of town,k:?:

Maybe I Have an Angel on My Shoulder

Gypsy Jan - 12-21-2007 at 07:13 PM

But, I was in central Rosarito on Wednesday, the 19th, the day after the shootings (I didn't know anything about it at the time), and didn't see any military police in the main part of town.

I also went into central Rosarito today to pick up the supplies we are contributing to the CRREAD posada on Saturday for the huerfanos (orphans) and did not see any evidence of military activity, but, in both instances I was traveling around the main part of town, and did not venture south on Popotla Blvd. near the police station.

We had lunch at Vince's Seafood (across the street from Bancomer) and the restaurant was busy with locals and Americans. (Live lobster now in season!) Three fresh lobster halves (=1 lb.) al vapor in garlic butter with salad and soup for US $20.

Von - 12-21-2007 at 09:45 PM

more powerful than government? interesting!

fdt - 12-22-2007 at 09:11 AM

Was in Rosarito last night, went to meet with Wayno (bbbait) at Renes and no, no military. Maybe you should take a drive down and get the story.

Oh my gosh

fdt - 12-22-2007 at 09:51 AM

I thought this was serious but to read an article that has quotes by someone that is considered a "Persona Non Grata" in Baja California like overcast is dissapointing.

http://www.ocregister.com/news/police-attack-rosarito-194750...
"The owner of baja ******, a tour and travel agency based in San Diego, said he canceled several tours this week in the wake of the attack, only one in a series he said was under way by drug cartels trying to “tell the government who’s in charge.”

“Their way of doing this is to go into public buildings in the middle of the day, break out their large-caliber weapons and shoot them up,” owner Mike Overcast said.

“We are recommending to the general public and our membership to avoid all travel to the Tijuana and Ensenada region for the next 30 days,” Overcast said.

I seriously can't believe he would have anyone booked on trips at all. :barf:
Have you ever tried looking up who this person is? Better yet, just do a search here and put the guys name in, pretty sad.

Out(over)cast is perfect for the loonies in OC

The Gull - 12-23-2007 at 07:55 AM

Marla has certainly got the "quality" of article that was sought for the "learned readership" of OC. Must be that writers can sit at their screen, interview people from hundred miles away and then make inquiries on an Internet bulletin board so that there is no connection to what is actually happening on-site. Is republishing things from the Internet, really what the OC Register passes off as "journalism" these days? Guess so.

Let the murders, rapists, thieves and muggers of OC stay home for the holidays. Although not nearly in the quantity found in the US, in my opinion, there is currently enough violence and crime in BCN.

The fish stands in OC have switched from the Register for wrapping their product, it was leaving a bad taste on the fish.

The Petco stores no longer use the Register as bird cage liner, as the birds were dying of dysentry trying to cover it up.

The vendors in Playas de Rosarito have stopped using it even though it was being sent free to BCN just to inflate the "delivery circulation" figures. Apparently, it left a slimy film on anything it touched.

Housekeepers no longer use it for windows as it leaves yellow streaks.

Dear Gull

Gypsy Jan - 12-23-2007 at 03:29 PM

For peple with long memories, Orange County was the John Birch Society world capitol and the OC Register was their house organ.

'Nuff said!

For those with longer memories, it used to be the Santa Ana Register.

Either way, those are not credentials for excellence in reporting. Some things never change.

marla - 1-16-2008 at 05:28 PM

Right well at least we were trying to report something everyone was talking about, at a distance and with only a few hours to do it, while everyone else was just picking their noses and leaving work early to go Christmas shopping. I had to skip my company Christmas party to finish it so people could at least know what was going on before they went down there for the holiday. It was not perfect but it was the best I could do under the circumstances. Thanks for all the buttcrack comments.

Thank you, Marla......very nice.

As one of the a---hole commentors above, allow me to offer you a suggestion. Since this isn't your private research source, you should consider taking what works for you and ignoring the rest. Above all, try to keep you nasty posts confined to the same year as the ones that have so offended you.

burritomama - 1-18-2008 at 10:41 AM

I just wanted to say that I appreaciate Marla's work to cover an important issue - and her recognition that this board provides important information (not everything but something). I know I check in here before I head south - and I also read Marla's work as well. I did both last December.

For the record I live in Orange County. It's too easy to dismiss us. The place has changed like all places.

Don't mention it, anytime I see someone refering to that overclouded as a source I will gladly jump in and coment.

Now on another thread you are requesting more information, is it that they are going on vacation again and it's the best you can do under the circumstances?

No accounting for taste. It is easy to dismiss readers of contrived reporting created in a vacuum with a predetermined story.

MARLA, I heard that all the Cartel leaders came into the TJ police station today and turned themselves in. They reportedly said that they felt bad about supplying tons of drugs to OC adolescent users and their parents. The Cartel members reportedly asked for forgiveness from the families of the OC who demanded drugs because they were rich and bored.

The Cartel leaders suggested that as an act of repentance and community service, they would make entertaining films with all their drug profits and they would employ all the striking writers and unemployed actors who are increasing their drug intake, daily.

The Cartels suggested that this was a type of poetic justice, the drug profits being recycled through the entertainment industry who generated the largest drug sales and show movies to the bored OC residents who consumed huge quantities of the product.

Publish this - it is as true as the tripe you published before.

Ah, community, thoughtful discourse and critical thinking. Respect too. Gee. I think that's about it for me. Clearly. Thanks.

marla - 1-25-2008 at 11:24 AM

well, personally, I have an actual life with real living people, including some nice ones I have met on this board, so I don't have a lot of time to hang out on my computer writing rude things about people I don't know. Enjoy your bile.

Gull...

You're spending an unusual amount of time flying around the civilized side of the boards these days. You know the drill. When you ooze out of your off-topic cage, you're only supposed to take short baths in the cesspool before flapping on over to the city dump for meals. Now...behave yourself or marla might do a story about you. She could call it Jonathan Livingston Flying Rat.

You proved it doesn't take much to enterain CaboRon. His day must be jammed with insignificance, to find your stuff funny.

Gull...all of your posts are attacks...you may think they are "QUALITY", but all that you have accomplished is, most of the board attacking back...it will not be long before someone takes notice.

Never a positive comment for anyone.
