Pro Peninsula took $34,000 from the Loreto Bay Foundation in 2006. So they don't actually address some of the factors that negatively impact the
turtles' survival, like the Loreto Bay project, and other coastal development. ProPeninsula could be more effective and true to their missions
statement if they didn't accept funding from the very “relentless threat” itself:
“One of the world's last truly wild places, the Baja California peninsula is a unique yet threatened environment. Strong environmental organizations
are needed to promote social awareness and participation in order to counter the relentless threats to the region's environment, while at the same
time promoting sustainable development alternatives.
Pro Peninsula is a U.S. based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering communities and organizations on the Baja California peninsula to protect
and preserve their environment. Pro Peninsula envisions the creation of a network of strong and effective environmental organizations backed by an
educated and active public working towards the common goal of environmental preservation.”

Pro-peninsula has had a running dialog with Loreta Bay from the beginning. I am not privy to the conversations but I know that they have questioned
in particular the plans for the de-sal plant. One of Loreta Bay's employees has been instrumental in making sure that everything from the conference
is re-cycled. So dont be so quick to judge with limited information.
